I would just like to clarify, for the benefit of any world leaders or military personnel who may be considering the prison at Scheveningen in the Hague as a nice place to retire: that isn’t where you would actually serve out your sentence. Surprising! I just looked this up today. No special reason.

On a related note, I vote (do I get a vote? Irrelevant) that @translink.ca uses the fees it gets from fair evaders to make station signage that is easily
visible to passengers riding the #CanadaLine. Some of us love craning our heads in a mad panic fearing we’ve missed our stop, but not all of us.

I wonder if Alberta premier Danielle Smith worries if she’ll run out of petty and mean things she can do? Does that thought keep her up at night? That she’ll run out of shitty ideas?

I’m curious why the fine for fare evasion on @translink.ca is $173 and not $173.52 or $172.49?

Just about ten years ago, my awesome partner and a group of friends organized a party to celebrate my transition, and something like 200 people showed up. Every trans person deserves to be celebrated that way!

Thanks to @lidsville.bsky.social and @jonathanmiddleton.ca and many others

We’re still celebrating you, Kay. I was honoured to be part of that. I agree every trans person deserves to be celebrated that way. ❤️

Expressing my disappointment that I didn’t see any costumes yesterday incorporating the Baseball Furies from the 1979 movie The Warriors and either the #bluejays or #dodgers uniforms. Seems an obvious opportunity missed.

I do not care if Canada post is ever profitable. It is a public service, everyone owns it. That’s valuable in and of itself.
We don’t ask the emergency room or public schools to turn a profit.
We ask them to be accessible for everyone to use.

This is going to sound “revolutionary”, but perhaps the way around the financial woes of the @canadapostcorp.bsky.social #Canadapost is to undo Mulroney-era changes requiring it to operate as a business, and once again treat it as the govt service it ought to be.

I’ve never heard these smug lines, but maybe they’re only foisted on on vegans. That seems a double standard right there. Bear in mind that pizza, in Canada, as recently as the 1950s, was shockingly novel.

The only thing I worry about if Pierre Poilievre gets kicked out as the Conservative leader, is who’s going to tell us that bees make honey? Or wait, is it flies that make honey and bees consume it? See, I’m already getting confused.

And call me a political omnivore, but I’ll take electoral reform where I can get it. I don’t know that there is much to be gained by holding out for the perfect system while we watch the left continuing to split itself.

Sure, but there is path there that could use a combined MMP-STV system like what was proposed in BC. I think that would be a fairly easy adaptation of the Westminster model. You could also implement either part of that first, and the second after.

Unpopular opinion, but we could have STV by now if the NDP had agreed to it, and the NDP and Greens would be doing much better. The fact they drew the line at PR is unfortunate.
