The Chancellor should raise money by boosting trade with the EU and taxing social media and gambling giants – not by hurting Bath’s small businesses.
Today's Spring Statement was a missed opportunity to deliver real growth for the country.

🦡Pleased to see @rspcaoffficial.bsky.social in Parliament today.
Our current wildlife laws are 200 years old - from snares still being legal to badger baiting going unchallenged, these outdated laws put far too many animals in harm's way.
We urgently need stronger protections for wildlife🦊
Youth services are vital for building young people’s confidence and giving them the skills for the future.
But spending has dropped by 82% in B&NES - leaving only £27 per young person.
Now the NCS has been cancelled, I asked the government if the funds would be reallocated to help services thrive👇

Often I hear people in rural areas say although they'd like to switch to an electric car, the infrastructure isn’t there for them to do so.
While it’s great EVs are growing in popularity, we must ensure that having one is convenient so that people can charge cars whenever and wherever they need 🚗⚡
While families across the UK have faced sky-high bills this winter, these eye-watering profits are the final nail in the coffin for consumers.
That's why we @libdems.org.uk have long called for a windfall tax on energy super-profits to help billpayers with the unsustainable cost of living.

The growing trend of children accessing spiked vapes is becoming increasingly alarming.
Spice, ketamine and MDMA are being found in schools all across the country.
We need urgent action to ensure that children are protected from the harmful effects of smoking these highly dangerous drugs.
Ed Davey quote on dark background that reads: We have something Trump desperately wants: a state visit. A banquet with the King. “We all know he craves it. So I say we give it to him. But only if he delivers what we need first for Britain and Europe’s defence and security. “And that is this: President Trump must sit down with President Zelenskyy and other European leaders – in a summit convened by the UK. “To agree how we collectively use the hundreds of billions of dollars, pounds and Euros of frozen Russian assets to pay for the weapons Ukraine needs to win the war and beat Putin.
"We have something Trump desperately wants: a state visit with all the pageantry.
I say we give it to him. But only if he delivers what we need first for Britain and Europe’s defence and security."

Ever since alarming research from @uniofbath.bsky.social found that 1 in 6 confiscated vapes were spiked with Spice, I have been campaigning to raise awareness of this terrifying trend.
I am very grateful to ITV West for inviting me in to talk about this important issue👇

"Liberalism is about empowering people without power, but it is also holding the really powerful to account, be they in the media, the social media, in government, wherever they are."

Public services matter for living standards
Some poorer households should see marginal gains in their living standards
But incomes for those at the very bottom are set to stagnate
Higher-income households also face a tough outlook
What's the outlook for living standards in 2025?
Disposable incomes are set to fall across low-, middle- and high-income families alike. But improvements in public services will help to boost broad living standards for some.
Hooded figure breaks into car with the headline overlay reading: Four in Five car thefts not being solved by police
Tens of thousands of crimes, including car theft, go unsolved each year, leaving victims and communities feeling unsafe.
The government must act now – invest in local neighbourhood policing to protect our communities.
This is a fantastic result for us in North Devon. Welcome Becky to the Lib Dem team.
Spent today admiring the incredible work of Burwell Print Centre with Charlotte Cane.
This fantastic organisation is providing adults with additional needs the chance to gain skills, confidence, and opportunities. Loved every minute of it.
The UK’s electricity was the cleanest it has ever been in 2024, with wind and solar generation hitting all-time highs, according to a report. The UK has more than halved amount of electricity generated from fossil fuels but gas still had largest share at 28%.

The argument that a NIC hike is necessary to restore trust would be very difficult to make to Dorothy House Hospice in Bath, who face not being able to provide the level of palliative support they have up until now, alongside staff lay offs.
You can't "restore trust" by making care services suffer.
