Good news this morning, employment checks completed and the only that is remaining is for me to get the mental health nursing registration pin and they also offered me to work at a lower banding in the interim If interested.

When a Deputy Chief Nurse calls you โ€˜Chief Nurseโ€™ this morning and ask for feedback about student nurse recruitment โ˜บ๏ธ. Sometimes a lovely compliment reminds you of the bigger goals especially when you donโ€™t have the motivation but you have to keep going.

It is nice to see a mental health nursing student who remembers me from the pandemic going on visits and teaching during their clinical placement in the crisis home treatment team, becoming a ward manager in 1.5 years. It really put a smile on my face as they are a kind and empathetic nurse leader.

PR doesn't appeal to me but real story-telling does. A leader who is relatable is more likely to connect with others. A good leader once did useful updates, short and brief about what is news, things to improve on and things to celebrate. Reflections from talks with staff or shadowing is better.

I keep being mistaken for being in my twenties whilst my hijab covers my grey hair ๐Ÿ˜. It makes me wonder about growing old, maintaining your peace, and what it takes to reach companionship and to shape a different cultural future, e.g., not being part of maintaining a community and self-reliance.

May tomorrow be a productive writing day academically and creatively depending quality of sleep. I am not helping myself by being awake at 2am, having a cleaner booked for 10:00 and needing to go to the shops beforehand for more products and of course as usual at the last minute ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿพโ€โ™€๏ธ.

Usually I do not tend to pick up vibes when somebody likes me but I did so
recently and noticed a change. Interesting.

In order to provide equality in service improvement, transcultural mental health care and leadership, you have to understand the demographics and intersectionality of the people you are serving.

I thanked East London NHS Trust in email after reviewing the Freedom of Information Act. They are the only mental health NHS Trust in London that has Somali ethnic recording, providing me with accurate statistics. Other mental health Trusts could only give info under Black African or Black British.

A MSc mental health student nurse asked me for tips how to get shortlisted and it has given me an idea for next blog idea. But apart from my previous experience and studies, writing a personal statement in a creative way does help. You are telling your authentic story but also your vision.

Two weeks later, after my first mental health nurse interview, I have received my conditional contract pending references from my university course tutor and my most recent clinical placement mentor. I am going to stick to crisis work, which is where I excel.
