To those working, we appreciate all you do and hope you’re able to find a moment or two for yourself over the Bank Holiday weekend
The safest and most effective route for anyone who has been raped or sexually assaulted continues to be their local Sexual Assault Referral Centre (SARC). SARCs offer specialist forensic care, medical support, counselling and safeguarding — with or without police involvement
This aligns closely with our long‑held position (see here: tinyurl.com/4jf5xbca) and the views of other organisations
We welcome this national guidance, which reinforces the need for safe, regulated forensic pathways that protect victims, preserve evidence, and ensure access to the right care
Earlier this week, the NCVPP and NPCC released a national position statement on the use of ‘self‑swabbing’ kits in unregulated settings following rape: tinyurl.com/ubj9zsxu
The message is clear: these kits carry serious risks for victims and can undermine the integrity of forensic evidence
