In homage to all the good he brought to this neighborhood, I created a collage of some of his pieces for people to visit.
I captured everything in the @Scaniverse app and combined a few of the statues into one giant piece that an audience could visit in @Arrivalspace at live.arrival.space/bingko

All the statues are the work of one gardener who worked for SF Parks and Rec from 1986 to 2009 by the name of Demitrio O. Braceros. As a native San Franciscan, I'm always in search of hidden gems that I can showcase so transplants and out of towners alike know just how special the city still is. Today, Cayuga Park gets the spotlight both IRL and in XR!

I've never really played Monster Hunter before, but letting my mind wander on a call with a friend today led me down this Palico path. Get you a kitty who will resist the patriarchy alongside you is all I'm trying to say out in these streets.

Combine this with a multiplayer space where other people are drawing trees, and a whole new avenue opens up in regards to whether or not you're connecting a network of trees or beautifying each other's in collaboration.

This is not my prettiest tree by far, but that's really not the point. The point is to get lost in the flow of the moment and just letting those branches take you where they take you. And before you can say 'wax on, wax off', you're already learning the basics of spatial art.

In designing upcoming workshops around VR art, I approach it from how I would have wanted to be guided as a beginner. As someone who encourages the art of play in every aspect of the creative pipeline, I think painting a tree in VR in whatever app of your choosing is a great way to start.

Last but not least Michelangelo aka Mikey who has always been my favorite. I'm not nearly as carefree as he is but I aspire to be! He reminds me to be present, much like he is in this moment with a stray kitty in an alley. All we have are these small, precious moments after all. 😻
