Aw hell YEAH! This motion analysis tech has exceeded my expectations. Rubbing my face in that plant in VR was surreal.

what if i fucking kill you
Peak example of AI as a glorified search engine imo-- got some objective direction on where to go for painting these assets and some articles linked to achieve the look I'm going for.
Kicking that off tmrw! Going to try to do no-code, but still commit the files. Painting in #blender to start
I don't like the Plant Seal, but I DO like the Phoenix Seal! It's a constellation-type of design, and I think I'll enforce specific draw order when I have players do this.

So, $1 doesn't account for arbitrary start position, and I can think of a solution but idt it's a priority rn.
Used Claude to generate some points for seals I drew in PS (in comments) and it's "good enough" for now.
On to first iteration of asset paints!

The recognition part of the algo was ezpz -- green is the drawn, blue is the seal it matched, grey is the normalized drawn seal (only green would be shown in game)
I'll reject if confidence is < .4 or something
Will add way to show available seals seals
I mean, the implementation I'm reading through line by line, but making sure I understand each component. The algo makes sense on a high level, and the match is just gonna be KNNs, but the devil is in the details

Implemented the resampling portion of $1, had it redraw the resampled result and looks good! Logic makes sense to me, using Claude to explain some bits of the implementation (UW) but ensuring I write all the code on my own.
All the responses to this being sarcastic jerk-off motions are why I think AI won't be as well received in artistic pursuits as tech bros wish it were, no matter how long it exists.
Lots of machines do stuff faster than humans, but no one watches the robot Olympics, we wanna see HUMANS do stuff.
So apparently google docs has a character limit
One thing that surprises me is that these lines have so few points. I figured I was just going "whatever" for now and we were adding one point per frame. It works and makes my life easier, but yea

Got some drawing going in a new #godot scene. Trying to effectively use the correct input functions since this will eventually pop up on screen. Just one control node with a script.
Goal now is try to implement the $1 algorithm
I kinda hate everything about the kettle rn. Why is it a pot? Why does it boil like that? Why do I pick it up to pour into the mugs?
It'll be an art choice at the end of the day I think. For now?
It funtions

All the haters (my inner demons) said I couldn't do it, but I got the hour in. Spent some time making a small minigame, realized it's pointless and the seal drawing should be interesting. I'll have a fair shake at it, pkmn ranger guardian signs is my inspo
The end yea- what was his "good argument" then?
It's giving, "see imperialism wasn't THAT bad because there were some good things that came out of i-"
Oh, I misread that a bit. I thought it was a racism thing, i.e. "the aboriginals are wholly problematic". This slightly contextualizes it lol, dude was just not on a winning streak
One of those things that's both "this can't be real" but "it's too contained to be written on a bluesky post"
So little words, yet so palpable. "The problem with the aboriginals" is CRAZY
Today's been busy with things right off the rip, so I didn't get my game dev hour in (woke up at 7, meeting at 8, homework, jiu jitsu at 11).
This isn't my journal. No one cares about the game dev updates. But maybe I'll look back on this.
Will get my hour in today. I will.

Worked a bit on the chapter 0 screenplay this morning (13 pages, started yesterday afternoon)
And a small timer on the kettle. I'd like to add the seconds counter above it (plumbing is what matters, I can move UI). And small interaction to start boiling.
Last couple of tasks here are all features which is nice. Was worth it

There's a better way for this that makes snapping irrelvant. Speed is not an intended element of this game, so I'm not going to expand upon that now. I may end up making it so you only need to brew one at a time.

Spent a half hour messing around with unnecessary snap points (a sorta somber morning), but now you can do things in "any" order so that's cool.
Second half of the hour was just making the brewing base load a little cleaner pastebin.com/sPD7jLTD
Bahh that's okay, I didn't need my mouse for game development anyway
Need some more Mamdani/Rutger Bregman energy

Today was a good development day. It's one of those moments where you finally get to that final end state you've been working toward, and it's tangible.
Lot of scripts added, lot of interactions that would only work in theory, etc. and now they are all together. Moments like this help keep it going
Ah- thank you!
I understood the relative to parent etc, but I didn't realize:
> Global position is calculated by adding all those relative shifts up
This makes sense with the before/after reparenting, based on when it calculates. I appreciate this! Figured it was tree-independent
Do I have literally any plan or reason to be able to prepare multiple cups of tea at once? No. I just got annoyed I kept having to pick up one at a time and the cup placement would always be weird.
Snap points set up, they work for now. Steam on the cup would be nice.
26/38 tasks done :sadcat:
I really don't understand the position/global position setup in godot. I feel like I've done all four permutations of thing.glob/pos = other_thing.glob/pos to get my intended effect lol
Everything is bad now because kids get their taste in music from algorithms instead of from trying to impress the older girl you know who looks like the Bombchu Bowling Alley Operator

Might end up going to env/drawn assets after this to give it some visual polish, but first half of the hour and the serving loop feels like it's complete.
Lots of stuff to hammer out still, continuing on with it in the rest of the hour. More in replies?
