If you couldn't be bothered to actually write the novel, why should anyone be bothered to read it?

Totally insufficient response. Helmet won't prevent the worst brain injuries, or injuries to any other part of the body. Kids shouldn't be on them at all. No evidence that these regulations can be enforced without other measures e.g. licensing/ insurance changes.

Helmets and hi-vis clothing to be made mandatory for e-bikes and e-scooter users Cabinet will sign off on plans to explicitly ban the use of scramblers on roads this morning.

This is not a good enough response. Leaving aside the difficulty with enforcing this, helmets won't prevent the most serious head injuries (not to mention injuries to the rest of the body), and children of course shouldn't be on them at all. Why no licensing?

I’m sad to hear the news that the wonderful Jane Goodall is no longer in the world. Her work with chimpanzees at Gombe in Tanzania taught us to look at other apes - and ourselves - differently. I was privileged to meet her later in life and tell her what an inspiration she was to me.

I'm getting it from my own personal experience of working in the rehab service in the national centre that looks after them- it's a fact.

Parents should not allow children on e-scooters ‘As clinicians involved in the care of children with traumatic brain injuries, we are writing to highlight our concerns’

E-scooters are the leading cause of traumatic brain injury in children admitted to Temple Street- and almost none involve cars.

As a cyclist, I get infuriated by this car brain reporting too- but I think we haven't got a handle on e-scooter safety at all yet.

Parents should not allow children on e-scooters ‘As clinicians involved in the care of children with traumatic brain injuries, we are writing to highlight our concerns’

We've seen a very concerning rise in traumatic brain injuries in children using e-scooters in Ireland since May 2024. Glad to have this letter in today's @irishtimes.com #escooter #tbi #braininjury #rehabilitation

Part of what makes art worth consuming is that a human being thought it was worth creating through their own effort, rather than yoinking it from the efforts of others. If a computer made it, who cares?

"There is no recession of the imagination": finding point 7 of the Arts Emergency Manifesto particularly inspiring today. Also point 11: "Optimism is a weapon and if all else fails be silly".

We will not stay silent on vaccines, say leaders of five major U.S. medical associations “We cannot and will not gamble with our patients’ health or the health of our communities,” write the presidents of the AAFP, AAP, ACP, ACOG, and IDSA.

“Immunizations work, they are very effective and safe, and they save lives. Vaccines are among the most rigorously studied and effective tools in public health.”

Kudos to AAFP, AAP, ACOG, ACP, IDSA for this.

Staggering cost to UK economy of ABI, and these are just the easier costs to count. Please share, ABI should be a public health priority, we could save money and improve lives and outcomes at the same time. @babicmorg.bsky.social

I keep warning you that generative "AI" is a threat to the processes of making & certifying knowledge & consensus reality, thus leading us to the verge of an epistemic & heuristic collapse of just catastrophic proportions but y'all keep slathering it on yourselves like it's butter & you're corncobs

☃️ Top 5: All Of Us Strangers, Anora, The Substance, La Chimera, Dune Part 2.

😱 Bottom 5. Sasquatch Sunset takes up all five spots. Is there any chance this was an elaborate joke as to how crude and vacuous a film the makers could convince someone to fund and distribute?

For all the complaining about the State of public services, and the planet, there seems to be a disconnect with voters realising they can vote for something other than the same old. Anticipating 5 more years of unaddressed crises in health and housing, and perhaps now sadly no Greens. #GE2024

Read new paper: Rehabilitation for Children and Young People in Ireland Following Acquired Brain Injury: current services and potential future directions.

This strategic direction paper was published jointly by CHI, NRH, ABI Ireland and Brain Tumour Ireland last year and sets out the steps required to close the gap.
