Slowly getting there with the dialogue system. Upgraded the editor system to use Unity Localisation instead of my old system. Just need to fix and then fully test some editor UI bits and then I can move on to in-game dialogue UI. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Copied over my old dialogue code... and that's a lot of errors to fix. Mostly localisation and animation related so it seems worse than it is. The editor code will be the biggest pain to update. I'd roll up my sleeves if I had any.

Decided to put together another list, but of some of my favourite games and in one word/sentence... why. Some repeats from the previous one, but mostly new ones.

1. Favourite Game: Vagrant Story - I can easily go back and play this again.
2. Best Story: Expedition 33 - The story really hit me hard.
3. Favourite Art Style: Megaman Legends 2 - The cel shaded style is just beautiful.
4. Biggest Personal Impact: Digital Devil Saga - Tthe devil designs just really engrained into me.
5. Best Combat: Sekiro - TTough one. This one just came to mind.
6. Overhated: Dark Souls 2 - I feel like hating a game because it's not as good or faithful as the precursor is too harsh.
7. Overrated: Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth - When I played this, I felt... annoyed? Not even comparing it to the original. Just too much bloat. Clouds issues where obvious and ignored for "plot"...
8. Underrated: Zone of the Enders - Do feel this doesn't get as much love as it needs (personal oppinion).
9. Needs a Remake: Digital Devil Saga - (Again) I did replay them recently and I think giving it the remake love that P3 got would be amazing.
10. Criminally overlooked: Breath of Fire IV - The game is beautiful and potientally the best BoF game.
11. Favourite Protagonist: Final Fantasy IX - Not Zidane or Garnet... but Vivi! I loved the little guy so much.
12. Favourite Antagonist: Final Fantasy XII - Gabranth... (I am a sucker for armor...)
13. Best Soundtrack: Nier Automata - I still listen to this to this day.
14. Best Multiplayer: Abiotic Factor - I had some good fun playing this.
15. Not usually my thing: Crypt of the Necrodancer - I don't usually play rhythm games, but this is soo good. Was a close second for music too.
16. Turn my brain off: Risk of Rain 2 - I usually play this solo whilst watching/listening to something else.
17. Best with Friends: Barotrauma - Currently playing
18. Best Retro: Vagrant Story - Best PS1 game imo.
19. Nostalgic Game: Final Fantasy IX - I fell in love with the world when I was young.
20. Game everyone should play: Pseudoregalia - This game plays really well and just gives me feelings of nostaligia that not many games managed to do.

Joining in on the trend. Tough picking each one as so many games can content in each one for me... Alt text has my oppinions.

Icon now displays for free climbing and blocks. I do plan to limit what you can free climb on in a future task (I.e moss, vines etc). This is so the icon isn't always in your face and also allows me to better refine the climbable surfaces. Now to move on to dialogue.

Added an interactable description label. Works well on ladders. Though I need to make some changes to my grabbable block and wall climb logic to support it fully.

Applied the icons to the mappings and made an input test to try them out. Works perfectly! In the recording you can see me start off with keyboard+mouse and then switch to a Switch controller and then finally to a PS5 controller.

Icons for nearly every controller type and keyboard keys

Icons for nearly every controller type and keyboard keys

Almost done. Just mouse icons to go I think. Then I can finish up the code logic (icon spacing etc). This was a fun little exercise.

Collection of WIP controller icons with a black and white theme.

Collection of WIP controller icons with a black and white theme.

Just implemented Input icon logic that updates when the active control scheme changes (keyboard, Xbox, Switch controller etc). Now having fun designing all the Icons I need.

Thanks! I hope to get to some form of level designs later this year. Just want to get a few more core features drafted up first.

Save/loading logic is finally finished. Took far too long, due to the amount of bugs it exposed and also me procrastinating... Atm you can save any where, but I am considering to limit it to save points in future (or respawn at fixed points). UI is also WIP.

A UI design for a load game screen.

A UI design for a load game screen.

Was going round in circles, trying out different layouts, font sizes and selection styling. Finally landed on something I like. Also moved the UI title to the side going to down the the divider to add to the skewed UI motif. Now to code it... #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

The main themes for my UI are contrasting colors and angles. To acheive the latter, I had to extend the UI system to support skewed scroll views and imagery. Mostly works as intended. Also added support for two UV channels which the basic UI doesn't provide. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Implemented character and scene loading for new game. Set it up so that I can easily change the scene and character for testing purposes. The loading screen is using a mockup map for now, but I intend for it to show the world map. Now to move on to save/load logic. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Got the base state machine and view logic in place. Though getting the button highlight logic to work was a tad annoying due to execution orders with the event system... Now to work on Save data and manager scripts so that those buttons can actually do things. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

WIP title screen with a placeholder "Eris Project" logo.

WIP title screen with a placeholder "Eris Project" logo.

Been focusing on bug fixes, however I have began working on UI designs. Here's a sneak preview of the title page so far. Also spent time finalising my games name and logo, but don't want to reveal that just yet, so using a placeholder for now. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Now with improved animations and transitions. Though I just noticed a glitch I need to fix when I initiate free climbing after a wall jump... (Eris dips too far down for a frame). #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Began working on the wall jump logic. Core logic is fully working. Just need to fine tune some parameters and functionality. Could definitely use some better animations, but that's a task for much later on. Wall running will be next... not looking forward to that. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity

Reworked the camera logic a bit so that I can support multiple CineCamera setups (Standard, group and aiming). Also needed to implement a custom pan tilt script to support the style of aiming I wanted. Slow progress, but getting there. #indiedev #gamedev #madeinunity
