Downtown protests are WAY safer for most people, though, in addition to being more convenient for most people. They tend to be a lot bigger and there’s definitely strength in numbers, and, well, they’re downtown where even ICE might think twice about their aggressive responses.

They alert others in the area of the activity and send out teams to try to help people being detained as well as their families, and sometimes protests pop up organically on site.

OCAD (Organization for Communities Against Deportation) and ICIRR (Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights) have a rapid response team hotline - (855) 435-7693 - call to report any ICE activity you see.

Red-winged blackbird dive-bombing/harassing a great blue heron… not sure what the problem was, it didn’t seem to be too close to the shore or any possible nesting areas? The heron didn’t seem to be terribly bothered by it, though.

Two for one! I was tracking the sandpiper in my viewfinder as it worked its way along the muddy banks of the river, snapping a few shots here and there, and never saw the soft shell turtle it passed until the photos were on my computer 😆
