Thanks for the report! Was certainly wondering.

Yesterday I had a somewhat tentative junco trying to make me think it was a least flycatcher—nice try, buddy, but way too early—so things bustling here too.
Spring migration is amazing.
I live next to the densest part of #OttCity, and even though it’s slowly being denuded of trees, just heard a hermit thrush 🤩 😍 #OttBirb #Centretown
This was an email from the Ottawa Board of Trade.
I’m gonna be the cranky contrarian here and loudly say “nope”:
1) we don’t lack for places to install solar,
2) above-ground parking is a blight on our cities,
3) it should be redeveloped into better uses, and
4) putting solar panels above parking lots is an obstacle to developing them.
We’ve done with worse slogans before…
Screenshot of an email that reads, “Transportation continues to be one of the most critical drivers of city building, shaping how people move, how businesses grow, and how communities connect. On April 21, 2026, don’t miss your opportunity to hear directly from the Hon. Prabmeet Singh Sarkaria, Ontario’s Minister of Transportation, at the Mayor’s Breakfast. In a timely fireside chat with Mayor Mark Sutcliffe, the discussion will dive into how transportation infrastructure can better support growth, mobility, and economic opportunity as Ottawa continues to expand as Canada’s second largest city in Ontario. This important conversation will also provide updates on key priorities for our region, including progress on the province’s commitment to upload Ottawa’s LRT and the next steps in the Ottawa New Deal, first announced at our 2024 Mayor’s Breakfast with Premier Doug Ford..”

Screenshot of an email that reads, “street level. About 40 per cent of the site, roughly 1,600 square metres, would be set aside as park space. That is roughly equivalent to a full city block of green space for residents to enjoy. The design…”
Screenshot of an email that reads, “Landmark buildings promise significant Centretown park space The Committee approved changes to the Official Plan and Zoning by-law, along with a heritage permit, to allow two landmark buildings to be built on O’Connor Street between MacLaren and Gilmour streets…”
Screenshot of Google maps showing the intersection of McLaren in O’Connor Street in Ottawa.
Having some trouble with this: “About 40% of the site…would be set aside as park space. That is roughly equivalent to a full city block.” The site is part of a city block…
Small boulder the size of a large boulder? #Ottawa #OttPlanning
Photo of the same bidirectional biking facility with the dumpsters in the same location.
Heyoo, dumpster’s still blocking the facility…
At what point do we start taking bets on how long it takes to get cleared?
If it can be in the bike facility, it could just as well be in the car one!
IMO we need to be referring to car lanes as such: just like parking, assuming that “lane” unmodified means car lane is motonormative and pretty outdated.
Photo of a different biking facility blocked by a dumpster.
Makes me wonder how many other biking facilities are designated for other dumpsters.
Good ole’ 161 Laurier West comes to mind… #OttBike

Spoke with By-law after reporting this dumpster blocking the O’Connor bikeway for the second time that day.
Apparently Solid Waste Services designated the bikeway as the dumpsters’ pickup location; the pickup just took longer than it usually does. 🫠 #OttBike #Autowa
Things bike helmets will protect you from:
-Head injuries from a slow speed fall
-Light rain
-Being blamed for not wearing a helmet if you get hit by someone driving 5,000 lbs of metal and glass
Things bike helmets won't protect you from:
-Everything else
🤷🏻♀️
If you think the Pope is a radical leftist, wait till you meet his boss.
Absolutely—and that would be wonderful. My guess is the City goes with bulb-outs when they want to have car parking but also the narrowing effect. On this particular street, they may also say a cycling facility isn’t necessary, given the low traffic.
🧵 The Canadian federal government’s 2025 budget has allocated:
More business tax breaks including for fossil fuels sector
$925 million for AI
$81.8 billion over 5 years for military
However, this comes at the expense of cultural heritage.
Yeah, it made it into the 2025 UFMP Update, which came to Council last September: www.ecologyottawa.ca/tree_strateg...
It narrows the road temporarily, which research shows induces drivers to drive more carefully.
Insane, right? Also classic #Autowa.
Photo of a steeet newly paved, and a bulb-out in foreground that just extends the sidewalk.
Sigh…another opportunity to plant some native plants or a tree—or have literally anything else but more impermeable surface—once again missed.
Ottawa: the city of missed opportunities. #OttCity
“We’re all trying to find the guy who did this” meme.
Photo of a crane truck parked on a sidewalk and cycle track next to a road
It’s so hard to figure out why #OttCity’s cycle track surfaces are so bumpy.
Anyway, please enjoy this nice shot of a crane. #OttBike
Well said! 😂 🤣
Elbows up, baby! 😎

Kind of surreal to have @npr.org report on “the effects of war“ and then just ask Americans their feelings on… [checks notes] gas prices??

It is profoundly demoralizing to watch this City Council prattle on and on about the dismal state of transit in this city, and then spit in the face of transit users at any and every opportunity that crosses their desks to actually do something about the fucking problem.
This gang would be intimidating if they weren’t so adorable!
