Took some time to document some of the geology in Falls Lake, NC. Falls Lake has some very diverse geology along its banks, and it provides great outcrops in a place where exposed rock is hard to come by.

Hey folks, there's lots of snow on the ground, so I figured it'd be a great time to talk about a silly technicality. Frozen water is a mineral, and it functions as such especially in places like outer space and glaciers.

Galena is a lead sulphide mineral, that usually forms in deposits created by hydrothermal fluids. It has a metallic luster with a beautiful bluish grey color to it. Typically it forms in either massive chunks as in veins or as cubic crystals inside pockets.

Happy Fursuit Friday! This week's rocks is a huge sample of Pyrophyllite from Orange County, North Carolina. It's formed in environments where igneous rocks have been chemically altered by hot fluids running through them.

Vanadinite is a Vanadium bearing Phosphate mineral that occurs in the oxidizing zones of lead deposits. It's frequently found in the form of beautiful red to red hexagonal crystals, and makes a great collectors mineral. This one comes from Morocco.

Happy Fursuit Friday Folks! This rock has two types of fossils, Chondrites, a trace fossil common in deep ocean rocks and Brachiopods, a clam-like animal that had an external attachment to the ocean floor.

Yes, it's topaz, that's been confirmed by XRF and EMP analysis. Note that Topaz has four main faces forming a sorta diamond shape, while quartz has six. That's the easiest way to distinguish them in hand samples. Also please don't assume every crystal point is a quartz specimen.

Happy Halloween, yappin' about rocks that I'll be passing out at Carolina Furfare. This is coal from Sharon, West Virginia, and it dates back to around 315 million years ago. At this time West Virginia was covered by an ancient swamp.

Here's a closer look at Henry the Sea Scorpion! Here I'm using a macro lens to showcase some of the more intricate details of this fossil. The high quality preservation allows for very subtle details of this prehistoric predator to be preserved.

Running through the anatomy of Henry The Sea Scorpion. Anatomy is a hugely important part of Paleontology, and understanding the anatomy of your fossils will tell you a lot about the animal that left it behind.

These Brachiopods would have lived in a shallow ocean that covered much of ancestral North America some 420 million years ago. Simple animals, they lived anchored to the ocean floor and fed in microorganisms drifting in the water column.

You can hear the plague in my voice, on antibiotics and hoping to be better by the weekend. This is a sample of Tourmaline from the Crabtree Emerald Mine, NC. Tourmaline is a mineral most commonly found as elongated black crystals in igneous rocks.

Pyromorphite from the Wheatley Mines of Chester County, Pennsylvania. I received these as part of a large, early acquisition that included numerous mineral samples from some rather famous Pennsylvania mines.

My furry hot take is that Barq isn't really bad at all for meeting folks, some of y'all just suck at catching red flags and are afraid to be judgemental to a detrimental extent.

The homeschooling trend is gonna suck in like 5-10 years when all the unsocialized losers get abandoned by their parents whom they're completely dependent on.

Collected samples for CFF from the Balls Bluff Siltstone, part of the Bull Run Formation, which in itself is part of the Newark Supergroup. This formation is 202.5- 201.4 million years old, and outcrops along the Potomac River, in Virginia.

I get my coal straight from the source, no middle man bullshit, I refuse to pay someone else to extract fossil fuels, I will gather carbon emitting pollutants myself.
