Almost everything we argue about is a substitute for the thing we should be arguing about: the immense wealth & power of an oligarchic class, which captures governments, ruins lives and wrecks the living planet.
This class redirects our rage at scapegoats. To resist its lies is to resist its power.

Right! Or the stadium! Or the Bypass! They're like Fred Flintstone with a get-rich scheme.

I love it and have spent entire half-days working there. Could go longer but once i'm moving into hour four I start to feel like a weirdo.

The Sherwood AI datacentre will only be creating a few jobs and yet the thing has a massive parking lot. Makes me think they're planning for its inevitable failure for when it'll be converted into a megachurch or a bingo.

Optimistic robin on the lawn
Really thinks that winter's gone.
But I've checked the weather out west.
Spring's still a dream at best.
Poor heuristic, robin on the lawn,
Assuming April's when winter's gone.

Are you new to Saskatchewan?

Last week, the QCIB sat down w/ Clr Mancinelli & talked about the AI data centre & regional cooperation. Plus we debated his motion to reduce the city's concrete use by reducing sidewalks. Like, comment or subscribe on our "website":

They're threatening to spend tens of millions of dollars on a data centre for "AI" on the edge of our city. The mayor & premier can barely contain their excitement.

But a battery installation to support a solar array? Insanity! Sci-fi nonsense! What about baseload?!? Baseloadbaseloadbaseload!!

"We built a locomotive that's going to run over a large portion of our userbase," is one hell of a sales pitch.

The ancestors would tell us, "There's plats in them cats!"

Far from the cops. No used needles, poop, mold, or hidden structural failures. A cornucopia of precious metals and VRAM.

A new treasure chest awaits you.

Happy hunting.

Look… I know there are very good reasons to eschew the use of drop shadows but I'm thinking about sneaking one in just for kicks. #cvaf2026

I'm so old, once in undergrad I had to line up in the Butterdome to make a last minute change to my classes.

Very early version of the CVAF 2026 Guide cover. About to drop in the headliners & featured acts. Will probably change multiple times before printing. Guide coming out late next week. Excited? I'm… well "excited" is strong. "Panicky" is closer to the truth. #cvaf2026

Today I am working on the 2026 Cathedral Village Arts Fest Guide. Feeling a little overwhelmed by the task. Hoping a crepe and cappuccino from Cozy Haus will fortify me. #cvaf2026

Yeah, Schitt's Creek was "just a sitcom" but seasons 1 to 5 were about as good as a sitcom can get. Near perfect TV. But when they started to serve that American fandom they picked up from Netflix, the show just went all sorts of wrong.

100% this & add to the list Schitt's Creek. That final season was garbage b/c it was wrapping everything in a bow for the fandom. The last ep of season 5, "Life Is a Cabaret," was perfect TV & where the series should've ended. I'd purge season 6 from my brain if I could.

Council's Coming For Your Sidewalks — Queen City Improvement Bureau In this week’s Queen City Improvement Bureau, we talk about ward 9 Councillor Mancinelli’s Concrete Reduction Motion and how it seems to contemplate reducing the number of sidewalks in Regina. Manci...

I wrote a long piece for the QCIB blog about why the city shouldn't save cash by cutting sidewalks. One of the things I object to is how the goal of the motion seems to be to steal road space from pedestrians for the benefit of cars. #yqrcc

There's a report coming to council soon about cutting concrete at the City of Regina. One change pondered: Reducing the number of sidewalks in new & existing residential neighbourhoods. The QCIB sat down w/ the drafter of that motion, Clr Jason Mancinelli. queencityib.com/podcasts/202... #yqrcc

Prediction.
A decade from now, low-Earth orbit will be inaccessible after Starlink (now bankrupt) precipitates a massive #Kessler catastrophe. Years/generations will pass before new launches to #space are possible.
No #Moon missions; no #Mars missions.
#Musk's name is cursed (even more...).

I'd argue taxpayers shouldn't be subsidizing giant-ass truck purchases. There is no obligation on the city to make sure you have a free place to park that giant-ass truck on the road. But seriously, we are already building roads to accommodate those trucks. And it's costing us a LOT of money. #yqrcc

3 days ago 4 2 0 0

But let's say we do this (we already are!) then city hall has to be much more up front about the fact that your taxes are so fucking high because YOU KEEP BUYING GIANT-ASS TRUCKS. It's that simple. You buy a big truck, taxes go up. It's your fault. (If you buy that truck, I mean.) #yqrcc

A thing Clr Mancinelli talks about in this QCIB is having to design for the city we have, meaning we need wider streets to cope with residents' huge-ass trucks. I think he was trying to get my goat (mission accomplished: goat gotten). /1 #yqrcc

Let's say you get rid of sidewalks on west sides of streets AND south sides. And you need to get from the dot to the X but — JUST FOR FUN — there's construction on a corner & the sidewalks are further blocked (like at Scarth & 15th for the past year). This then becomes your safe walking route. /4
