This is such a good idea. We should do this in NYC.
"All Chicago Public Schools students now have access to nearly everything the city’s libraries have to offer — including physical items like books as well as extensive digital resources."

A picture of a library shelf with a small rolled up note on it. The note says “read this” in child’s handwriting.
A picture of the note unrolled. In the same child’s handwriting it reads “beware of the future!!”
Still thinking about this note I found in the children’s section of the public library when I worked there back in 2018. This kid tried to warn us…
As usual, I recommend everyone to visit their local public library to access a whole bunch of stuff, and not just books! Streaming services, museum passes, maker labs, various programs for literally every age level, and more!
Even VISITING a branch gives us a way to request more funding!
Might be the greatest opening paragraph of anything ever.

Librarian 'gobsmacked' after school uses AI to remove 200 books from shelves including Orwell's 1984 and Twilight Senior staff at the secondary school in Greater Manchester used AI to earmark 200 books for removal from its library that were deemed "inappropriate"
Bad news obviously but Orwell's Twilight does have way too many talking animals boning at dusk so it's not a huge loss.

instead of watching the new harry potter trailer, why not pick up some horror books by trans and nb writers for the trans rights readathon?? there are so many good options.
For example, check out some of these writers:
Ok let's do it: "Can this be a solution?" A thread.
Oh my GOD baybayin script??? Tagalog mixed with English??? This is gonna be GREAT.
It is really weird to me when people don’t like reading and books.
I get not having enough time to read. I get wanting to read more, but there are just too many distractions around you. Obviously, I get having disabilities that make it difficult to read.
But just not liking books? Who are you?
I know people are very sensitive about the use of the word “genocide” but the attempts to medically eliminate trans children is very clearly meets the standard because they are trying to eliminate a population and also they know some of those kids are going to kill themselves
If an official commits an impeachable offense and nobody acts to impeach, it is no longer an impeachable offense.
People who oppose impeachment as “pointless” because it seems unlikely to result in removal do not understand this very simple point and seem unwilling to even try to understand it.
Cis people need to pay attention to the way they communicate this. They freely admit that after all of their research, they came up with zero evidence that HRT was harmful.
Then they banned it anyway, claiming their inability to find a reason is a reason in of itself.

Image: the cover of the book "Ilustra, Book One: Daybreaker" by Tori Tadiar. The cover features three tween, with the center figure casting some sort of spell that is making light come out of her hands. Notably, the background has a sun that evokes the same sun from the flag of the Philippines.

Proving that judging a book by its cover DOES work, I immediately noticed the way the sun was drawn on the cover of Ilustra, Book One: Daybreaker by Tori Tadiar looked VERY familiar, thus piquing my curiosity enough to look it up and put the book on hold!
A digital drawing of author Maia Kobabe, a white nonbinary person with short brown hair wearing a patterned blue shirt, who scowls while holding up a copy of eir book GENDER QUEER: A MEMOIR. Maia is saying: H.R. 7661 is a national book banning bill which seeks to remove any book that "involves gender dysphoria or transgenderism" from all public schools in the US. This would ban my books, and any other book with trans themes, from public schools. PLEASE call your House Reps and say: NO ON H.R. 7661!

Now would be a good time for anyone who wants to learn about recent Iranian history to read this. It is well worth your time and money (I am sure your local library has it if you don’t want to purchase it).
The kids doing the Purim Science Spectacular are dancing and screaming to "Party Rock Anthem" by LMFAO, a song that is significantly older than said kids dancing to it.
Kinda wild to hear a song used for ragers back in college in a kid's library program.

A Long-tailed Tit dangles awkwardly from one foot on a thin branch, its tiny body swinging below, clinging on for dear life, just like the rest of us on a Monday.
Still clinging to the weekend. No current plans to let go.

One of my favourite sides of politics/media.
I’m very comfortable and cozy on the D-list, being known mostly by children and bisexual librarians, but every now and then I think it would be fun to be famous just for one or two reasons, and this is never more true than when I remember The Muppet Show
1. It was not an accident.
2. It was not a staffer.
3. While the president may have dementia his racism is not due to dementia.
4. He isn’t sorry. He means every racist thought he shares.
5. His base agrees with him.
6. He will do it again.
7. No one in power will hold him accountable.
Fielded my first official "...but AI told me x,y and z" question today, and I had to very firmly tell this older lady that, no, we cannot accept your copies of National Geographic magazine from before my parents were born.
No, Google's AI overview is NOT correct. Christ!
