Thanks to everyone who contributed & recommend me movies for my #12MovieChallenge for 2025.
Turned into 27. Still got Before Trilogy to go for an upcoming week off. Some I ended up buying/importing and a couple lucky enough to see at some well timed retro screenings

#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge September Film:
HELLBENT (2004)
(Recommended by @shaneanderson.bsky.social)
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge August Film:
MUTE WITNESS (1995)
(Recommended by @buddywatson12.bsky.social)
Yep. This was a damn great film from Walter Hill. It’s an intense, claustrophobic, brutal and visceral survival thriller that has some interesting themes and metaphors at the core of it. Especially in regards to exploring masculinity. The entire cast were great in their roles. 4/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge July Film:
SOUTHERN COMFORT (1981)
(Recommended by @andrewshaw23.bsky.social)
This Charlie Chaplin classic is one I’ve been wanting to see for a long time, I’m so glad that it lived up to my expectations. It’s a brilliantly crafted, hilarious and emotional satirical comedy that’s also thematically still relevant today. The final monologue was terrific. 5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge June Film:
THE GREAT DICTATOR (1940)
(Recommended by @nath95.bsky.social)
Well… This was a movie. While it’s a fascinating, bizarre and nicely shot low budget sci-fi horror film that tackles some pretty provocative things at the time in its story, unfortunately the unnecessary softcore sex scenes really dragged the pacing down. 2.5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge May Film:
THE CURIOUS DR. HUMPP (1969)
(Recommended by DanielHood4)
Yep, there’s no debate. This deserves to be up there as one of the greatest anti-war films ever made. This was an absolutely harrowing, astonishing, intense and stunning experience that has the tone of a surreal nightmare. Aleksei Kravchenko was amazing. 5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge April Film:
COME AND SEE (1985)
(Recommended by cinemanical)
While it didn’t blow me away as much as I expected it to given its reputation as a western classic, I still found it an really engaging and well made film nonetheless. The cast all gave terrific performances and the characters were surprisingly complex. 3.5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge Bonus Film:
THE NAKED SPUR (1953)
(Recommended by @johndrew-sky.bsky.social)
Even though it’s a bit disjointed with its structure, this was a beautifully compelling biopic on Chinese silent film star Ruan Lingyu. Its mixture of reenactments, documentary and meta-filmmaking makes it a unique experience. Maggie Cheung was fantastic. 4/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge Bonus Film:
CENTER STAGE (1991)
(Recommended by @24fpsuk.bsky.social)
Even though it’s pretty simple and straightforward when it comes to its plot, Walter Hill’s cult action film is still very much the epitome of cool. It’s well acted, superbly crafted, engaging, stylish and is chock full of fantastic car chase sequences. 4.5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge Bonus Film:
THE DRIVER (1978)
(Recommended by @robocoplol.bsky.social)
Even though it’s not quite on the level as some of the films that I’ve seen from him previously, this Gothic supernatural horror film from Mario Bava it’s still a hugely entertaining one that’s both atmospheric and compelling. The title character is creepy. 4/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge March Film:
BARON BLOOD (1972)
(Recommended by @supermarcey.bsky.social)
While it does get a bit repetitive at times and it really didn’t need to be 110 minutes long, I still found this to be an enjoyable, funny, visually striking, demented and inventively cartoonish comedy that lovingly wears all its influences on its sleeve. 3.5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge February Film:
HUNDREDS OF BEAVERS (2022)
(Recommended by @shanemd.bsky.social)
While it’s too long than it needed to be and the meta/postmodern aspects didn’t really add much to the narrative, it’s still an interesting, engaging and unique absurdist dark comedy that definitely has a lot to say when it comes to its social commentary. 3.5/5 #12MovieChallenge
#NowWatching #12MovieChallenge January Film:
DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD (2023)
(Recommended by @oldmanduggan.bsky.social)
