I suppose my taste for Oboe has manifested by now, & the early to middle 18th was a golden age of sorts, carefully sitting inside so much violin music! Besozzi is one of those names which would occur instantly to his peers, too bad he's rare today! 🤠

Leclair was one of the premier violinists in mid-century France, but even he had stages of improvement. The violin sonatas from his final opus, Book 4, are hard to beat, and these realizations of them are first rate. Sweet! 🤠

Fasch was a whiz with Orchestral Suites, though his employer had little use for them, he distributed them through his network of friends like Telemann and the Berlin & Dresden orchestras. A considerable cache was recently discovered, containing these.🤠

More Telemann : more Dombrecht. Some especially fine chamber music for oboe, violes and BC. A very nice ensemble here, making the entire even finer! 🤠

Telemann had as much facility with the oboe as with any other instrument, which is to say, more than most! Well demonstrated here by Dombrecht, with excellent backup from the band. Just right for a brisk, sunny April afternoon! 🤠

Accent has provided a fine selection of 18th century French flautists, Les Buffardins presents fine realizations of this tasty treat. 🤠

Very few contemporary composers could match Graupner's capability when it came to writing for the bassoon. Very few musicians can match Azzolini's capability when it comes to Baroque Bassoon. This album appears to buttress my assertions. 🤠

Here is another of those composers who, once one actually gets to listen to them and learns a bit about, one wonders how and why they can have descended to such near total obscurity. Just saying...🤠

When he was just a kid (so to say), #KeyboardKris released what I still think is his best album. All your minor key favorites are right here, nicely realized! 🤠

In addition to the excellent playing of these oft-performed works, I'm delighted with the scholarship that went into them as well, something too often overlooked in both liner note writing and making performance material. Easily my favorites! 🤠

One of the finer reaizations of Mozart's wind ensemble music, ranging from the 5 Sextets from Salzburg to the Gran Partita, we see/hear another example of how his works just outstripped others of the same genre. The period winds here sound fabulous!🤠

Fux is mainly known for his church & choral music, as well as his (still in use today!) book on writing counterpoint, "Gradus ad Parnassum". But he also was highly regarded for his secular music, like these Trio & Quattro Sonatas & Sinfonias. 👍🤠

For those who fought in the Great HIP Wars, learning that a large faction of music fans believe that when Haydn specified 'Basso' in the first string quartets, he actually meant Basso (Violone), not Cello. AFAIK, this is the only album exploring this.🤠

Mannheim didn't only produce orchestral music, but also some fine chamber pieces, like these Quartets for 2 Clarinets, Horn & Bassoon by Tausch. One thing both genres had in common, though, is an abundance of very fine music for winds! 🤠

If for some reason you haven't happened upon this series of re-releases by Capella Coloniensis, they are commendable for many reasons, not least being their choice of repertoire, very tasty. 🤠

If it's new & unique, you can count on Telemann to be there for it. Here's a chance for me/you to hear a 'Basson Chalumeau' for possibly the first time! It begs attention to the fact that even though modern music leans on tech, so did the old guys!🤠

One of the things I noticed when listening to these very early works by the 2 preeminent designers of the Mannheim Style is that the ideas for embellishment and the overall playing style were built in from the start. I would be delighted to hear more!🤠

The Italian expatriate community thrived (throve? 😶‍🌫️) in the 18th century, including D. Scarlatti, Boccherini, & this highly talented composer as well, Gaetan Brunetti. Along with some very popular symphonies, his chamber music also pleases. These... 🤠

An entertaining variety of early century concertos in the Italian style. I have picked up a few of these 'CD of the Month' discs over time, they never fail on the quality and interest front. Can you imagine having such a resource in USA? Thought not.🤠

I don't know if you are a Rosetti fan, but if you like 18th century music, you would be hard pressed to find a more representative composer than he is. His orchestral works especially are in a class with the finest of Vienna & Dresden. 🤠

Telemann, Tartini, Graun, Vivaldi; concertos for #Viola_da_Gamba by some of my favorites, wonderfully well played. The sort of album which could easily slip through the cracks, but really shouldn't! 🤠

I've been wanting to replace my old recording of these works (naming no names) and when Presto told me it was on sale, it was automatic. Cicic & Devine are really fine here, he's a player to watch out for! The music is frightfully entertaining too. 🤠

You don't hear much, if anything, about Philidor beyond him being a chess grand master whose strategies are still being used today. After hearing these unique chamber sinfonias, they appear to represent another strategy which would be useful today! 🤠

So this guy finds this little cello... thus begins the tale of how some seriously nice music turned out to be nicer yet when played on the right instrument! This little Duo for Cello & Fortepiano by Schaffrath is a fine example. 🤠

While in Berlin, don't miss a chance to hear another Brother Act. The Bendas produced much fine music, and Georg was even the pioneer 'inventor' of what became the singspiel. One could really create a music establishment back then. First, be King...🤠

The old dilemma of differentiating Graun bros can be resolved by others, for me it's just to enjoy the music, and that is not at all difficult with these chamber works, probably composed for Janitsch's Friday Acadamies. 🤠

The Quiet Bach. The Bückeburg Bach. Sebastian's 3rd of 4 music writing sons may have been 'quiet', but he sure composed some nice music. This album spans from a 1750 'Baroque' Trio Sonata to a 1785 'Classical' Fortepiano Trio. Excellently realized. 🤠

Blavet was THE star flutist of his time, which was later in the first half of the century. There only remain a few opuses of his oeuvre, including these 6 w/BC. It's no wonder Telemann chose him to premier the Paris Quartets! This group can play them!🤠
