Today is the 81st anniversary of #Dday mission. It is a big date in the history of #BigRedOne aka #1stInfantryDivision.

On 60yr anniversary, I was in Iraq and 1st ID held the SSIFWS (combat patch) ceremony there in Tikrit.

I fought to be able to wear it on my USAF uniform too.

The 1st Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Infantry Division from Fort Riley, KS, will deploy to Europe to replace the 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team of the 1st Armored Division, which is based at Fort Bliss, TX, to train alongside NATO forces. 20yrs ago I was about to ETS from the #USArmy in Germany after deploying to Tikrit, Iraq, #OIFII, with #1stInfantryDivision aka #BigRedOne. We had relieved #4thInfantryDivision the year prior, they found Saddam 13DEC03. (We were supposed to deploy* from Turkey in 2003, but nixed.)
