Green Party District Cllrs Sue Nicholls and Vicky Burt at a Herts County Council public engagement event in Buntingford for Active Travel plans for the town.
A really positive engagement session in Buntingford today talking to residents about @hertscc.bsky.social Active Travel plans for the town centre. Really pleased there’s an option for whole town 20 limit. Would be a game changer here for improved walking and cycling & reduced road danger #20splenty

Just come across this campaign organisation for 20mph limits in urban areas.

It’s great to see concrete action now being taken. Initiatives like the 20mph programme coming to Letchworth are a real step towards making our streets safer for everyone.

If your local highway authority is going to achieve significantly reduced death and injury on urban/village roads, implementing #20sPlenty policies where people live, shop, work and go to school is a great place to start.
#VisionZero
Hey, #WiltshireCountyCouncil me again. When are you going to start implementing 20mph limits across the county. Not just in random places, but all residential areas and all roads with schools and community spaces. No more consultations, just get it done.
#Wiltshire #20splenty
A lost opportunity to make roads safer by reducing speed limits.
Wales has shown by introducing 20mph, which is simple, quick and cheap to implement, saw big reductions in road deaths and injuries immediately.

Important ideas & data here, but we could publicise it so much more effectively if @landorlinks.bsky.social allowed use of video slide-grabs (for non-commercial purposes) without need to seek permission

Just done latest #QueensPark #StLukes community #Speedwatch session, looking at Freshfield Rd downhill. 19 of 90 vehicles were doing 24mph or more (fastest was 32mph 😱) Slightly lower % than we usually find - there were a few convoys with first driver sticking to the #20sPlenty limit...
👾 shame. Local high street has infrastructure for Greater Bristol Bus Network that could have had lower embodied energy and better connectivity for active travel if only it had happened with #20sPlenty not a few years before!
#Ireland is adopting a default 30 kmh (19 mph) speed limit in urban areas
"The aim is to have 30km/h speed limits in built-up and urban areas operational by 31 March 2027.
In February, the default speed limits on rural local roads decreased from 80km/h to 60km/h.
This reduction in the speed […]
Catchy slogan: #20splenty
There's a hashtag for that:

It was an anecdotal. No data to back it up. If you were a tourist from a place in Europe with a 30km/h (18.5mph) limit would you really welcome going on holiday with kids to a village or town where they endorse speeds 50% faster and they drive on wrong side of the road. #20splenty for tourists.
One day hopefully we will look back on the reduction on speed limits the same way we do the smoking ban. Individual needs should not come at the expense of the safety of wider society

I’ve never been convinced with the approach the city takes to speeding control zones and this year is no different. For me it is a binary choice, whole city ban (which I’d support) or nothing at all.
Redford Road a route to school excluded from 20mph limits cause… traffic flow.

“What is an acceptable death toll that justifies getting to work two minutes faster?”
#20sPlenty @walkridegm.org.uk
As for the adding of an "average of two minutes to journey times of differing lengths", it leads to two questions:
1) Provide the number of road deaths YOU think is acceptable.
2) When was the last time you tried to cross a large signalised junction as a pedestrian?
#20sPlenty
2/2
... Is the right question

… 20’s Plenty where people are in Hertfordshire in urban and rural town and village centres. Not only to reduce road danger but to create more liveable neighbourhoods with quieter streets and cleaner air.

So, an update from the council on my request for 20mph...
They've been round asking people on the estate if they support 20mph or not. Apparently it's 50/50.
I'm now walking rhe streets, staring at people trying to work out who said they don't support 20 🤨
@20splenty.bsky.social #20splenty
Looks good. Especially focus on the whole route, not just outside schools. We need 20mph in urban areas and safer junctions for pedestrians everywhere. #20splenty
It’s time we had more of these in Cheshire East. How about it, @cheshire-east.bsky.social ? #20sPlenty
