It's been a fantastic #AGU25 week for Hydroclimate2k - lots of new H2k friends made at the poster session, SO many amazing Common Era hydroclimate talks, and an H2k lunch so fun that I forgot to take a photo.
A great reminder of what a wonderful global community we have :)

The snowgum (Eucalyptus pauciflora) is one of the (relatively) few Australian tree species with clear annual rings.
Researchers at Adelaide Uni and ANU are using snowgum cellulose d18O to produce a new record of alpine hydroclimate over past centuries #21daysof2k @pages-ipo.bsky.social
Did you know the current Hydroclimate2k project isn't the first time PAGES 2k has dipped a toe into understanding global hydroclimate? In 2016, researchers gathered in Palisades, USA to discuss data-model comparisons of Common Era hydroclimate. Read about it here: pages2kpmip3.github.io #21daysof2k
Have you been following @profmattjones.bsky.social and @raindrop-herder.bsky.social who are sharing insights into the work of the PAGES 2k Network working group?
Drop them a follow to see what else they have in store during the #21daysof2k!

Some of the beautiful varves from Nar Gölü, Türkiye. Each pair of layers represents one year of lake sediment. The varves tell us about hydroclimate e.g. where they change colour, as do the proxies we measure from them e.g. Dean et al 2015 QSR 124:162

One of the current flagship activities of PAGES 2k is compilation of the Hydroclimate2k database. This map shows records currently being assessed for inclusion, with more records being added by a global team of project members.

Throwback to 2017 when Iso2k project members met up in Zaragoza, Spain for the first (and only!) in-person workshop of a mammoth five-year database collation effort.
Here we are, variably spelling out the name of the project or providing an enthusiastic backdrop

Photograph of a landscape with bare sandy soil showing through sparse new regrowth. The landscape is gently hilly, and a road is visible from the lower right of the photo until it disappears over the horizon. The sky is an uninterrupted pale blue.
In 2019/2020 Kangaroo Island (Australia) was devastated by severe bushfires. Researchers at the University of Adelaide are developing new Common Era lake and speleothem records to discover how fire and rainfall regimes on KI are changing with climate change

One of the great things about @pages-ipo.bsky.social projects is the opportunity to work with amazing scientists from all over the world; here's a few of the 2k Network at a workshop in Nottingham last year #21daysof2k
The PAGES 2k Network Logo
The PAGES 2k Network (pastglobalchanges.org/science/wg/2k-network) has been investigating the climate of the last 2000 years since 2008. The Network is currently focusing on hydroclimate, co-ordinated by scientists from 8 countries over 5 continents #21daysof2k @pages-ipo.bsky.social
Yaks Chac, a lake in Mexico
Yaal Chac, Mexico – a new site for inclusion in the Hydroclimate2k database (Metcalfe SE et al., 2022, Quat Sci Rev 282: 107445) and a photogenic start to our #21daysof2k event. Over the next 3 weeks we'll be giving daily insights into the work of the PAGES 2k Network. @pages-ipo.bsky.social
