Finished August's #22TLReadingChallenge, which was chosen by my new mystery novel book club!
十角館の殺人 (The Decagon House Murders) is one of THE BEST Japanese novels I've ever read. Many novels take forever to build up but this was strong from start to finish.
Went to the bookshop and only came away with four books this time, including a signed copy of 同志少女よ敵を撃て!
I already own Medium in hardback tankobon but bunkobon are easier for me to read. Might make it my October #22tlreadingchallenge book.
#22TLReadingChallenge update!
I finally finished ムゲンのi for June's "prettiest cover" prompt. I skipped July but started 十角館の殺人 for August's "friend's choice".
So I'm a little behind but September is fantasy month so I plan to read part two of ムゲンのi.
I forgot to say, I'm counting 十角館の殺人 as my #22TLReadingChallenge for August because it was decided on via study book club vote!
I'm still working on my book for the #22TLReadingChallenge! I'm half way through the first book but hopefully I'll be able to finish it and read the second while also reading a book for August? かも?
My book this month is the fantasy mystery novel「ムゲンのi」
This is technically the book I intended to read for the #22TLReadingChallenge June prompt (prettiest book in my TBR), but pushed it back to July because I didn't have time in June (and I don't have a book about art.)
Now that the JLPT is over I can get back to the #22TLReadingChallenge! Need to finish off my May book and read my June one (might skip July because I don't have anything on art...)
How is it already May?! This month's #22tlreadingchallenge prompt was "a translated book", so I decided to read the first two Muderbot Diaries in Japanese, システムの危殆 (All Systems Red) and 人工的なあり方 (Artificial Condition) translated by Naoya Nakahara.
Took a little longer than planned but finished my second book for the April #22tlreadingchallenge.
Each essay looked at a different woman in Japanese folklore then discusses the story from a modern feminist standpoint. Was OK, probably give it a 3/5.
Bonus non-fiction book for the #22tlreadingchallenge! 日本のヤバい女の子 (Nihon no Yabai Onna no Ko), 20 essays about badass Japanese women with some really great illustrations!
Just finished 吉田の日々赤裸々 (Yoshida no Hibi Sekirara) for the #22tlreadingchallenge and it was so good! I was worried I'd struggle and find it dry (I don't read non-fiction) but Yoshida's essays were so personable and funny, also great #JLPTN1 kanji and vocab practice!
April is non-fiction month for the #22tlreadingchallenge, and although I've already picked my book I'm tempted to read another one once I'm done.
I don't have many non-fiction books on my backlog but it's still hard to pick one.
It's April, which means a non-fiction book for the #22tlreadingchallenge!
I'm reading 吉田の日々赤裸々, which is a serious of essays the producer of Final Fantasy XIV, Naoki Yoshida, wrote for the Japanese magazine Famitsu in 2014.
Finished my March novels for the #22tlreadingchallenge and...I was so disappointed!!!
What a great premise and a great start with zero plot or payoff. The ghost mangaka that's predominantly on the covers is barely in either book!
I'm really enjoying the 2022 Target Language Reading Challenge (#22tlreadingchallenge)! It's been a great motivator to read more and get through some of my backlog.
The March book for the Target Language Challenge is a book about books! So I'm going to read かなりや荘浪漫 (The Canary House Romance) which is about an aspiring mangaka who lives with the ghost of a dead mangaka and his editor.
#22tlreadingchallenge
Time to start my February book for the 2022 target language reading challenge!!! パチパチパチ
This month's theme is "a novel under 200 pages". I picked 西の魔女が死んだ (The Witch of the West is Dead), which is 226 pages, but it's the shortest book I have!
