#24for24: At SportsTravel and the TEAMS Conference, we are in the sports-event business. But we’re also just as much in the relationship business. Work acquaintances often become personal acquaintances. That was certainly the case with Corey Peterson.
#24for24: With more than 4,000 athletes competing in 22 sports with over 180 nations represented, the Paralympics this summer entered an era in which athletes are well-known commercially and established as its own sporting force that has changed the landscape of the cities that host the Games.
#24for24: Events like the Olympic Games are significant boons to the host city. But lost in the story of the host city for mega sporting events is the opportunity for smaller destinations to get their own piece of the action.
#24for24: There are things the IOC would like you to believe about the Olympic Games that are not true. But there is one thing about the Games that resonates; it is, more than likely, the greatest single gathering of athletes in the world.

21 - A Deadly Treasures - @janemcparkes.bsky.social This is the follow up to her debut A Deadly Inheritance; a cosy crime novel that raises un-cosy issues, set in beautiful Cornwall. Jane is an excellent writer and couldn’t put this down.
These were my #24for24 of books I intended to read this year. I read 37 in the end, including 12 of the intended ones - exactly half. I'm pleased with that - an improvement on recent years, where I only read about a third of the books I aim to. Thinking about my #25for25 right now...

20 - Fortunate Son - @caimhmc.bsky.social Bunny McGarry goes to London… Another brilliant instalment of the Bunny McGarry series, a wonderful mix of humour and darkness.
#24for24: Yes, the 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Summer Games were in Paris and with plenty of focus on the present. Yet within the U.S. Olympic movement, there was also a sense that Paris was a chance to re-light the Olympic flame within the U.S. as a larger opportunity looms four years away.
#24for24: The IOC hoped the Paris Games were a chance for the Olympic Movement to relaunch itself after eight years in pandemic-related protocols, an exercise in French audacity encouraged and promoted by the IOC while knowing the movement itself needed a successful Games like perhaps never before.

19 - D is for Death - Harriet F Townson. Can’t wait for more of this series - Dora is just brilliant.
#24for24: There’s a three-word phrase all over New Orleans. It adorns everything from notepads to drink koozies to signage around the city: Built to Host. It’s a catchy slogan, but those three words have a different meaning less than three months away from hosting Super Bowl LIX on February 9, 2025.

#24for24: Between 2022 and 2023, Raleigh grew by nearly 2 percent and crossed the half-million mark for population. The sports offerings and large events the area attracts also continue to expand as part of a Destination Strategic Plan released in 2018, focusing on a 10-year plan for the region.
#24for24: "Neither of us knew much about Leeds United, although I had vaguely heard the name in the past when people talked about soccer in England. But for my son, Leeds quickly became his team, in the video game world and, interestingly, in the real world as well."

#24for24: The growth of international club soccer friendlies has increased dramatically in recent years with the formation of unofficial tournaments and multi-city tours, spreading international sports tourism throughout destinations across the United States.
#24for24: There’s something for everybody in Rock Hill, South Carolina. At the same time it was hosting 3,500 riders at the 2024 UCI BMX Racing World Championships at the Supercross Track, there was a youth basketball tournament across town at the Rock Hill Sports and Event Center with 250 teams.

#24for24: Descending into the Smoky Mountains and looking out the window, the expanse of green forestry revealed Chattanooga, Tennessee, which has built its sports-tourism offerings and showcased its growing downtown walkability and outdoor activities when Sports ETA hosted its annual 4S Summit.
#24for24: The most exciting Formula 1 points race in years … being held the day after one of the biggest football games not only this season but in recent University of Texas history. On one October weekend, there was a good argument to be made that the center of the sports world was Austin, Texas.

I was late coming to the Dales Detective series, which was great because then I got to binge them. I regularly re-read them all - they’re perfect entertainment, sweet, funny, mysterious, a total comfort read.
#24for24: "There was a genuine business purpose in experiencing the Hornung Award in person having heard about it for years from the team in Louisville. When the fates aligned to bring my son along, it made the trip even more special than it would have been otherwise ..."
#24for24: Ricky Castaneda has big plans. And at the top of the list is to lead Team USA’s first blind soccer team at the LA28 Paralympics. Being the country’s top prospect factors into his appreciation for the Sports Science & Performance Center at the Lakeshore Foundation in Birmingham, Alabama.
#24for24: The sports tourism industry continues to rise to new levels with each passing year. However, the upswing has not correlated to local CVBs and sports commissions expanding their staffs. While some cities have sports divisions that reach double-digits, that is the exception, not the rule.
#24for24: Every year thousands of kids go to camp. One camp in particular requires elite talent to secure an invitation. Elite Tournaments has a partnership with Premier League side Southampton Football Club that sees American players live out a dream over the course of a week in the UK.
