I'll post one album for each day in 2026 in this thread

The Basin Street Blues came on from Miles Davis’ Seven Steps to Heaven I was stepped out the door for a walk and let me tell you, this album made a world of difference on a rainy Monday morning. The title track is my favorite from the album.

I’ve listened to this album a dozen times over the past week. Debut album five years in the making from Australian band Arbes, Counterways. The singer has a lovely voice and the musicians frame it while still showing their chops. Very spacious production, clean. There’s some noisy […]

I guess it will take a few years to complete this hashtag lol

So what's the opposite of a casually thrown-together EP like Freckle? Steve Gunn's The Unseen In Between sprang to mind. I listened to this album heavily a couple years a go, but it's been awhile. At first I was unimpressed with a re-listen, and continued on to Other You. But when I […]

Okay, it’s been awhile. I’d been anticipating this new Ty Segal project since I first heard the singles “Who’s Sitting on the Moon” and “Taraval” and pre-ordered the album. And those songs are great! Unfortunately, while there’s ten songs on the album, it feels very casually thrown […]

Today's album isn't actually very good, but has two songs that were popular when I was in junior high school. "One Thing Leads to Another" has 50M plays on Spotify, "Saved by Zero" has 5M plays, and "Red Skies" (not from this album) has 2.5M plays. Definite power law for this band […]

I've been in an electronic music mood lately, and this album is a danceable banger all the way through, creative yet accessible.

Niecy Blues - Exit Simulation
🎧
One of my favorite albums in recent years, Exit Simulation is an immersive ambient r&b experience that touches on personal growth, depression, and social issues with grace and beauty.

My favorite album of 2024 is a masterpiece. Dark folk/art pop that is as mesmerizing as it is gorgeous and thoughtful. Listen to this album.

I discovered XTC in high school and really got into them as an undergraduate at Indiana University in the late 80’s, so they will always have a special place in my heart. This is not my favorite album, but I accidentally triggered English Roundabout and then of course had to listen […]

Since I'm in an electronic music mood, here's an old favorite. Aphex Twin is a legend for many reasons, and this album is one of them.

100 gecs - 10,000 gecs (2023)
🎧
This is a weird future. Everything is available so readily that 100 gecs is a logical outcome of kids raised on every kind of genre. Easily my favorite electronica/punk/metal/ska/pop album with a song about a frog on it.

“In 100% SAHARA GUITAR, Etran de L’Aïr are back to claim the throne, with their first studio album! And what a sound it is. Recorded in sunny studios on the WEST COAST, the brothers take that old Agadez sound to new levels, adding even more guitars into the mix, weaving layers of […]

Oh, you thought I forgot? Well, I did! HA! Anyway here’s today’s album, Dream Talk by Still Corners. I’d enjoyed several singles (“Heavy Days” is a rocker) as well as their 2021 album The Last Exit. It’s all western-twinged “dream pop” with Tessa Murray singing over Greg Hughes […]

Since I just posted Absolute Elsewhere as one of my favorite albums of 2024, here is where my love for BI started. This kicked off a years long infatuation with death metal.

Local Boston band, and one of their tracks totally sounds like The Cars. Gave it four listens so far? Kinda forgettable. Got it on the strength of Nice Clean Shirt, which is still the best song on the album.

“Moment’s Notice” came up on my shuffled Favorite Songs playlist and I was like, damn, this is a fine song. The album is one of the greatest recordings ever, so, yeah. Gave it a couple listens. But three for this track. So good!

Tribe were such a unique and endearing voice in hip hop. They forever have my love. Bass up, vibes up, bump this.

The title track of “Hello, hi” captures Ty’s silliness but also his heavy guitar sound. He’s super prolific but I only have a handful of his albums. I’ll probably pick up more.

A musician buddy asked about everyone's favorite riffs the other day. My favorite metal riff is the title track to this album. Shit goes hard.

One side effect of my #365Albums project is I've started "liking" tracks, which is something I never bothered with much in iTunes/Music. But it's nice! You can make playlists of songs you like! Yes, welcome to 2001, I know, I know.

Ty Segall is not much of a lyricist but he sure does love playing guitar. I prefer his more garage and psychedelic cuts. I listened to Manipulator so often I had to quit cold turkey, random snippets would play inside my head all day and night. Anyway I think enough time has passed […]

British crust punk compilation. This is probably the crust album I listened to the most. Extra points for being the first of many punk bands I like whose entire output can be collected on a single CD.

Swans - The Seer (2012)
The 32 minute title track came on shuffle today. It is better in context with the 2 hour album. When I first heard this album, I listened to Swans for like 2 months straight. Anything else was incapable of satisfying me.

“Greet Death is an American rock band from Flint, Michigan. Greet Death has released two full-length albums.” This is not one of them. It is in fact a single. (Single Sunday, I hereby declare it to be a thing.)

This was the first Fugazi CD I ever owned, bought used at a CD store. It has lived in my brain since my first listen. Fugazi is like comfort music for me.

As part of my #365Albums I’m listening to each album more than once. Maybe 2-3 times if it’s short and familiar, or 4-5 times if it’s new.
I prefer albums that actually work as an album, as opposed to a collection of singles with some filler (you know these immediately)
But you can’t always […]
