102. Ladytron - Playgirl
Ladytron combined the sounds of Kraftwerk with the intelligence of REM to create something that tricks you into thinking 80s synthpop was smarter and cooler than it actually was.

101. DiiV - For the Guilty
(it's pronounced "dive," if you were wondering)
DiiV dramatically changed directions on their third album. It was raw and real, documenting the process of putting your life back together after recovering from addiction.

100. Prozzäk - Sucks to be you
I know, I know, I'm threatening my music snob reputation here, but making me laugh is a quick and easy way to slip past my defences.

99. Wild Cherry - Play that Funky Music
When you write a song about writing the song you're currently writing.

CTY camps ended in a dance. (Mentioned "It’s the End of the World as We Know It")
I visited a store and they were playing yet another classic from that time "Cotton Eye Joe". Don't know the steps anymore, but the song makes me want to dance.

Continuing the theme, one of the songs my wife and I enjoy dancing at weddings is "Shut Up and Dance" by Walk the Moon.
It was also a National Dance Day pick in 2015, when we really enjoyed watching SYTYCD. We danced it in the Kennedy Center.

Close enough to my anniversary for me to pick out our wedding song.
Fly Me to the Moon, I think we played both the Frank Sinatra version and the Utada Hikaru version

98. Dick Dale and his Del-Tones - Misirlou
I'm somewhat equipped to explain Pulp Fiction to a younger generation, but the cultural fascination with Pulp Fiction at the time, I can't help you there.

97. Belle and Sebastien - My Wandering Days are Over
Stuart Murdoch is such a good songwriter that he gave me a crisis of confidence.

95. Jamiroquai - Space Cowboy
I only heard this song after the Virtual Insanity music video went into heavy rotation. If you only know that one song, I highly recommend digging into the full discography.

94. 54*40 - Lies to Me
I'd prefer to tell you that it was one of their cooler songs that got me into 54*40, but nope, it was this one. Mostly on account of timing.

93. The Jimi Hendrix Experience - House Burning Down
It feels almost redundant to say "This Jimi Hendrix guitar solo is really good" but this track goes to a place, and it's wild.
And then there's the political side of it. Black art feeling the culture.

92. Figurine - Heartfelt
Figurine are one of the first bands I heard through the late night radio show Brave New Waves. I thought I knew what underground music was gonna sound like, and my first encounter with it was the exact opposite of what I expected.

91. Boards of Canada - Magic Window
Music can be so overproduced these days, it's refreshing to hear something where the artists really let the track breathe, and make effective use of open space.
The restraint exercised on this track is truly inspiring.

90. The Arcade Fire - In the Backseat
Music enthusiasts have a weird relationship with bands who are too good out the gate. Everything else you make gets compared to your masterpiece, and will always fall short.
This song described my life at the time.

89. Yo La Tengo - Little Eyes
YLT are a wildly inconsistent band, which is a side-effect of fearlessly pursuing your muse wherever it may lead. Lots of bands talk the talk, but they're rarely willing to take as many risks as Yo La Tengo.

88. The Cinematic Orchestra - Flite
I find the vast majority of TCO's music deeply underwhelming, but their second album, Everyday, totally lands for me.
I particularly enjoy the drums in this track.

86. Neil Young - After the Gold Rush
Reading up on it, the history of this song goes to some interesting places. Though the devastation and disillusionment that it conveys still seem to be apt.
Lotta folks are gonna be feeling this really soon.

85. Gordon Lightfoot - Sundown
Another song I remember from the radio during car rides. I was a dumb kid at the time and didn't know much about music, and the chorus of this song threw me for a loop.

83. The Clash - Lost in the Supermarket
I knew The Clash by reputation (and the popular singles) when I picked up London Calling on a whim, and was not expecting the full album to be as eclectic as it is.
This song was an immediate standout.

82. The Tea Party - Fire in the Head
I'll leave the cultural appropriation debate to people wiser and more educated than myself. From a purely musical perspective, I think we're too quick to box ourselves in to local musical norms, and that's a shame.

80. The Flaming Lips - Race for the Prize
I was aware of the Flaming Lips as a fuzz-soaked psychedelic grunge band, so the first time I heard this song, I was deeply confused for multiple reasons.

79. Crumb - Ghostride
The beauty of music is that sometimes the thing you never knew you wanted turns out to be the thing you needed at that exact moment.
It's why I go to the trouble of checking out obscure bands.

78. Men Without Hats - Safety Dance
In the current era, there's this obsession with the style and aesthetic of the 80s that is very much built from outliers and with all the detritus scrubbed away.
90% of the time, the actual 80s weren't this cool.

77. Sigur Rós - Untitled (Vaka)
Sigur Rós are another one of those bands that have had an extremely outsized influence on me, at least compared to how much I listened to their music.
This song in particular left a big impression.

75. Negativland - No Business
This song, and Negativland in general, are what convinced me that sampling was a legitimate art form and not just a lazy form of theft.
Pay special attention to the lyrics, there's more going on here than just a funny cut-up.
