I know life gets busy, and increasing adult/parent responsibilities fill our daily schedules to the brim, but make time to study and become VERY familiar with your child’s IEP or 504 Plan.

Parents…as early as possible, get to know your child’s IEP or 504 team at the school. But remember, this shouldn’t be a one-sided effort. The school team should also make an effort to build and maintain a relationship with YOU.

“504 Plan vs IEP” compares differences side-by-side. The 504 Plan column lists accommodations, no specialized instruction, and coverage for disabilities affecting major life activities. The IEP column lists accommodations plus specialized instruction, measurable goals, and IDEA eligibility.
Not all education plans are the same.
📘 IEP: Under IDEA law, includes specialized instruction + services.
📗 504 Plan: Under Section 504, ensures accommodations but no specialized instruction.
Knowing the difference can equal stronger advocacy.
