15 April 1971: the Most Revd. Frank Woods (1907-1992) becomes the first Archbishop of Melbourne to be elected Primate of the Church of England in Australia. He had been Archbishop since 1957, and was the church's ninth Primate. #anglican #54years He retired from both roles in 1977.
