平和のばら「ヒロシマシリーズ」をつくりつづけた広島の被爆者で育種家の田頭数蔵さんは、2017年にあたらしいばらを生み出しました。
つぼみが寄り添い、70枚もの花びらがかさなってひらく、やさしい色の花です。
この年、核兵器をなくす核兵器廃絶国際キャンペーンがノーベル平和賞を受賞したことから、その花は平和への希望をこめて「ICAN」と名づけられました。
核兵器禁止条約とともに各地にひろがり、そのメッセージを届けています。

平和のメッセージを託されて世界を旅する「ヒロシマシリーズ」13番目、作出は田頭数蔵さんです。
「ヒロシマシリーズ」を提唱された原田東岷さんは、この花が名づけられた1999年に亡くなりました。
世界に平和をひろげることを夢みて、数々のばらを送り出されてきた二人。
鎮魂の祈りだけでなく、同志を失った哀しみが、この花にはこめられているように感じます。
けれども、ヒロシマシリーズにはまだ、続きがありました。

ドイツのジョセフ・ニーボルク氏によって生み出され、ゴールドメダルを受賞したこのばらは、「ヒロシマシリーズ」を提唱した原田東岷氏らによる花の交流がきっかけとなって、1998年に名づけられました。

平和のメッセージを世界中にはこぶ夢を託されて生まれた「ヒロシマシリーズ」。10番目のばらは、1995年の「ヒロシママインド」。
「ヒロシマシリーズ」を呼びかけた医師の原田東岷氏が、自身で作出された花です。
平和記念公園の原爆死没者慰霊碑には、「ヒロシマの心」が刻まれているといいます。
