This is your annual reminder that you can’t drive a wedge between communities where there isn’t already mistrust. #76Place
@hallmonitorwppm.bsky.social is at #PhiladelphiaCityCouncil today for #PHLCouncil’s final session of the year. Among the matters on the agenda is the final vote on #76Place, and members of #SaveChinatownPhilly took over Council chambers. We’ll have more on the #HallMonitorNewsletter
An insightful piece for those who haven’t been following along: @ingasaffron.bsky.social speaks to @commonedge.bsky.social about Philly’s impending (and disastrous imo) #76Place.

@hallmonitorwppm.bsky.social is at #PhiladelphiaCityCouncil chambers for what we're being told is the final #CommitteeoftheWhole meeting regarding the #76Place proposal. To get the scoop on how this plays out, sign up for the #HallMonitor newsletter at HallMonitor.org.
Right now, #PhiladelphiaCityCouncilChambers are empty. But at 4pm they'll be filled with people on both sides of the #76Place debate as the #CommitteeoftheWhole reconvenes The Committee recessed the meeting at 9am as negotiations between Council and the @sixersnba.bsky.social continue.
Insightful interview the estimable @ingasaffron.bsky.social about the #Philadelphia76ers’ push for a new downtown #Arena. #76Place #NeighborhoodProtests #JeffersonStation @apipennsylvania.bsky.social bit.ly/3ZLCkVi
Like, for example, the @hallmonitorwppm.bsky.social crew is at #PHLCouncil's hearings on the #76Place arena proposal. We've been here for every single minute of every single hearing on this project because that's all we do. We spend almost as much time in Philadelphia City Hall as local officials do
I'm at the #76Place public hearings and it's a full house here at #PhiladelphiaCityCouncil chambers. There's a lot of comment on both sides of the debate, but in the end it's about the numbers.
Actually, it's about one number: 9.

It's the last of the #76Place Public Comment hearings for #PhiladelphiaCityCouncil's #CommitteeoftheWhole. More than 100 people are expected to testify and the @hallmonitorwppm.bsky.social crew is here for all of it. Catch us on Wednesday at 6 on #wppm1065 and @phillycam.bsky.social. #EVEV
It's 3:45pm. Why does it feel like it's 10pm?! #76Place
"A side benefit of increasing service for arena patrons is that non-event goers will have better service every evening this increase in service will lead to increased ridership of regional rail by the general public - independent of the arena". #76place #philadelphia
The reason why Philly has an abundance of office space is because folks discovered work/life balance during the pandemic lockdowns. Most folks don't want to return to a 9 to 5 office schedule when they can work from home. I don't think that #76Place solves this problem.
But if they don't get the chance to speak today, they can come to #PhiladelphiaCityHall tomorrow when #Day4 of the #76Place hearings begins at 10 am. I say this because Panel 7 is a panel of ministers. If you've ever sat through a panel of ministers, you'll understand where I'm coming from.
In Memory Of Those Who Died While Waiting For Day 3 of The #76Place Hearings To Come To An End...
I'm at the #76Place hearings for #PhiladelphiaCityCouncil. #SEPTA is currently testifying, which is what everyone was trying to stick around for. The transit authority just announced fare increases and service due to budget shortfalls, but it plays a big part in the #Sixers calculations for #76Place
Consultant's dubious Philadelphia arena growth forecast, boosting #76Place, relies on NY-area venue fictions

CSL missed two competing arenas (which closed), MSG renovation, new-venue bump, post-pandemic surge.
