Our recent #AABA2024 session got great coverage in Science Magazine 👇🏻. One of my favorite session take-homes: making human diversity all about genetic diversity feeds into essentialism, when genetic differences are essentially meaningless & there is so much more to diversity.

Not even a day after coming back from the #AABA2024, and I have a new episode of "The Story of Us" being recorded tonight to air tomorrow! This time on the show, I am hosting renowned archaeologist and anthropologist, Dr. Michael Petraglia of Griffith University! Ive been waiting a while for this!

Life History Theory as a unifying principle
Life History Theory is a mid-level theory from evolutionary biology that describes the strategic allocation of bioenergetic and material resources among different components of fitness (e.g., calories and nutrients devoted to growth vs. reproduction). Somatic Effort anchors one end of the first dimension of this trade-off whereas Reproductive Effort anchors the other.....Thus, a life-history strategy allocates an individual’s bioenergetic and material resources among the competing demands of survival and reproduction (Shennan, 2002).

Digging deeper into the citations used in the 'psychometric approach to life history strategies' literature, for Ulises Espinoza & Agustin Fuentes #AABA2024 workshop.

Who is cited as foundational to Life History Theory in this influential early paper?

Archaeologist Stephen Shennan 🤷‍♀️
