We had a PACKED surgical education poster session today at #ACSCC24. Thank you to @ShabahangMo, the current president of @Surg_Education, for leading a lively session ๐๐ป๐ฅฐ
We will be coming in HOT to #ACSCC25! See you in Chicago @AmCollSurgeons ๐ฅ
RT if you agree that the savory crรชpes at @MosconeCenter were ๐ฅ๐ #ACSCC24
Itโs the last day of #ACSCC24 and @ariananaaseh highlighted how factors influencing โfitโ evolve for general surgery residents over time. Camaraderie, program care, and resident satisfaction topped the list for applicants and residents, but cost of living and research emphasis
@arghavansallesmd.bsky.social and I could have talked all day! It's so lovely to finally meet F2F. We hatched many #equity and #DiversityAndInclusion plans... ๐๐๐ #ACSCC24
My favourite bit of the American College of Surgeons #ACSCC24 trade exhibition is the indocyanine green fluorescent 3D pumpkin laparoscopy ๐๐คฃ. It's like surgery meets 3D movie cinema- put on the glasses and the image focuses into one, with perfused structures lit up in green.
The ANZ contingent got a snap with outgoing American College of Surgeons President Dr Henri Ford! Thank you Henri for your warm welcome to the International Scholars and Members. Dr Sarah Aitken, Dr Cameron Wells, Dr Leisel Porrett, and Dr Hoang Ngoc Ha. #ACSCC24
Incredible to catch up F2F with long time Twitter buddies Dr Catherine Teh and Dr Tim Pawlik at #ACSCC24. Dr Teh was inducted as an honorary fellow of @AmCollSurgeons last night! ๐๐
Chuffed to catch up with Prof Sir Murray Brennan and Dr Ron Maier at #ACSCC24 Philanthropy and Scholarship luncheon. Murray has been so kind to me since I was a registrar (last century ๐คฃ) and Ron was a super supportive American College of Surgeons president the year I was Education Scholar.
Incredible presentation about potential harms of AI in healthcare by Dr Rachael Callcut. Too much to capture in a thread (invite her to speak at your event instead!) but as a non-American I was struck by the poor value of US healthcare- a complete outlier in multiple metrics. #ACSCC24 1/3
Lots of hernia nerds here at the #ACSCC24 meeting. We all struggle with the issue of hernias in patients with obesity. No clear answers, need to individualize to the patient
Thought provoking presentation by Dr Jeffrey Jacobs about public reporting of surgical quality outcomes- 'patients have a right to know the outcomes of the surgical procedures they are undergoing'. #PatientSafety #ACSCC24 1/4
Delighted to introduce the two International Guest Scholars from Australia, Dr Hoang Ngoc Ha and Dr Leisel Porrett, to VIPs Dr Siow Sze Li, President CSAMM (College of Surgeons Academy of Medicine Malaysia) and Prof April Roslani, past President CSAMM. ๐ค #GlobalSurgery #ACSCC24
It's still dark in San Fran, but I have a proper kettle and proper milk, and this is already a vast improvement on those Keurig-style one-cup thingos and a plastic sachet of 'creamer'. Hooray for a hot cuppa. ๐ค๐ซ And now, onwards to #ACSCC24!
I'm the first woman to represent Australasia on the International Relations Committee of the American College of Surgeons (Education Subcomittee). Looking forward to advancing #MedEd and learning from like minds at #ACSCC24.
(And also of course- marking #BreastCancerAwareness month)
Of all the surgical conferences, I reckon the American College of Surgeons Clinical Congress sets the bar for being family-friendly, and #ACSCC24 is no different- childcare from 6 months to 17 years, lactation pods, and session access for infants up to 18 months.๐
