#AGU Nostalgia
Happy to meet my mentor Dr. Jackson Tan at #AGU23. Together we worked on a capstone project and presented a poster at AGU. This work is a part of #GPM #MentorshipProgram by #NASA.
Thanks to Vasco Mantas and Andrea Portier for selecting me for the capstone project.

David & team analyzed 1982-2016 data to show how snow droughts are increasing GPP extremes, with hotspots in Central North America, Eastern Europe, & Eastern China. Huge thanks to #AGU for hosting & to all for the enriching conversations! 🌍 #ClimateScience #AGU23
In sessions outside my research area I find myself confused by jargon + speaker’s assumptions about the aud. background knowledge.
As speakers at a large diverse conference, who should we be tailoring our talks for? Do we have a responsibility to make our talks more inclusive and accessible? #AGU23
#HaikuYourResearch to earn little 200$ to help defray some late night #AGU24 snacks! 🍟🍺
Here's a throwback to my #AGU23 haiku:
Grandparents' fields sown,
Stores of nitrogen linger,
Seeps to streams today.
For the #AGU23 Gutenberg Lecture, Dr. Lucy Jones discussed how social science research has helped her better communicate seismic research to the public and legislators. In Temblor's latest, Optimum Seismic Fellow Fionna Samuels chatted with Dr. Jones about the talk and her advocacy work. ⚒️🧪

And I feel I singlehandedly informed more people at #AGU23 than knew about it before we talked (they show up when you search my name since I’m currently a placeholder chair on all the AS sessions).
But it will be interesting to see how this goes. We still haven’t figured out hybrid...
I feel I also need to do a (for once non-covid-related) PSA for attendees of #AGU23: there are online poster sessions happening the week of the 22nd! Go check them out (all listed in confex).
Brought to you by someone whose virtual poster in 2021 got only 2 attendees, one because I texted them :x
Another of the three conveners of the PP41A session (@cjsun.bsky.social, Allison Lawman, and Sophia Macarewich) who had invited me to give a talk at #AGU23 is now on Bluesky!
Welcome @climatesmac.bsky.social!
selfie in front of my AGU poster. I am wearing a Fashion Mask over my N95, and the Fashion Mask has cats doing science on it.
Now that I'm back from vacation (read a lot of good novels and only one not-good one! By which I mean I actually didn't finish that one, because I did not like it) please enjoy how fashionable I was at #AGU23
(There is an N95 under there, but the cats are doing science)
The recording of the 4-hr #EarthEngine and #geemap workshop at #AGU23 is now available. Co-taught by Justin Braaten, Samapriya Roy, and Qiusheng Wu

Thanks for the well wishes, folks! My symptoms are a lot better now and I'm hoping that trajectory continues.
Reminder to #AGU23 attendees: now that you've seen so many posts from people who got COVID there, AGU sent out a survey yesterday for feedback on the meeting. 👀
Scientific publishing reform updates from #AGU23 🧵
1. Last year, @theAGU started NotebooksNow! to figure out how to publish computational notebooks.
2. This year, we've launched an MVP showcasing notebook publishing...
#AGU23 Wide. Open. Science. and notebook based publications with NotebooksNow! and @curvenote in 2024!

And, I’m trying to find a PCR since the #AGU23 meeting with 20k people definitely had covid spread, and Walgreens is telling me it’s $130 upfront. Absolutely absurd that I can get blood work for a $15 copay but when I want a reliable test for a widely spreading virus… nah, YOU pay for it.
20,000 scientists. 5 days. And tons of buzz around switching to computational notebooks for scientific publishing.
#AGU23 is a wrap! Key takeaways tomorrow!
Northern lights lit up the flight home from #AGU23 last week. Amazing display for about an hour of the flight over northern Canada
It was so incredible to see the students I’ve been working with present their research at #AGU23 last week! 🪐💙
If it's any consolation to the folks coming home with #AGU23 covid, I am at home in bed with covid and I didn't even go anywhere. It's everywhere at the moment. 😭
Wear a mask, stay home if you're symptomatic.

I've been absolutely wiped out and stuck in bed the last several days because I got COVID at #AGU23 . I knew I was unlikely to be able to avoid COVID forever, but I'm still pretty angry about it.
At #AGU23 last week, Freysteinn, Thor Thordarson, and Kristín Jónsdóttir talked about how the volcanic activity that kicked off in 2021 in this region of Iceland (the Reykjanes peninsula) is probably the start of a new era of volcanism. Whee! (7/n)
Peeps that went to #AGU23, please get tested now that you're home. I know a few folks who attended and tested positive for #COVID19.

Thank you to Eos for this wonderful feature on the work that #DRI's Christine Albano and #USACE's Eric Shearer recently presented at #AGU23, characterizing watershed responses to #AtmosphericRivers. Read the full article on their website at bit.ly/driwatershedforecasting. #DiscoverDRI
The day after #AGU23 ended, scientists and activists protested in Uganda to call for an end to fossil fuel expansion and climate colonialism
If you squint you can see the black sign on the right that says “Out of the lab & into the streets”
#AGU23 Recap Thread
I got on a train in Brunswick, ME on Dec 7, passing through Boston & changing in Chicago.
The train passed the snowy Rockies & Sierras, a herd of elk, a golden eagle perched by her nest, & lively conversation from nature-loving passengers.
Have you just come back from #CellBio2023 or #AGU23 or some other meeting this year and want to squeeze one more use out of your conference poster?
Turn your poster into festive decor!
