During the GEO II demo, Scout functioned as a Wi-Fi repeater for Interact. 📶 Due to its design – including the option to add spikes to its rimless wheels – it can navigate difficult terrain such as the steep slopes of Mount Etna 🌋 and even explore caves. #ARCHES22
Excellent #teamwork between our #RobotsOnEtna yesterday 🦾 – @esa’s Interact & @DLR_de’s Scout rover were part of the GEO II demo for #ARCHES22. From #Catania, ~23 km away, German astronaut Thomas Reiter controlled Interact while our @KITKarlsruhe colleague steered Scout. 🕹️
After collecting the samples, LRU2 acts as a courier and brings the samples safely to the RODIN lunar
lander. 📦 GEO I demonstration for #ARCHES22 completed. 🦾Next up GEO II. Stay tuned! 🤩

The terrain data acquired by LRU1 helps guide LRU2 to places where it makes sense to collect samples. 📍 Using its shovel, LRU2 collects sand. With its robotic arm, it collects a rock 🪨 and places both into the sample container – the payload box. #RobotsOnEtna #ARCHES22
