“Of course we’re open to engagement with any non-states party, but if it’s on the terms of the sanctions, and with a state that is already sanctioning the court, that is untenable for us. That’s impossible." www.justiceinfo.net/en/153443-af... #ASP24 #ICC
FIDH actively participated in #ASP24 in The Hague last week. For the first time, ICC States Parties collectively condemned sanctions against CSOs and UN experts. They also issued an unprecedented joint declaration expressing solidarity with the Court.
#InternationalCriminalCourt - While everything indicates that Prosecutor Karim Khan has already left the stage, the Assembly of States Parties to the #ICC, refused to address the elephant in the room.
This year, there were several of them.

A US legal advisor was reportedly circling the #ASP24 halls to monitor who was in attendance, while Israeli representatives attended side events and took notes. If their purpose was to intimidate and cause unease, it seemed to work.

This part—the pledge to take measures to ensure that the Court and its officials and staff can do their work impartially, undeterred by coercive measures—is most important, in practical terms.
Time will tell whether States Parties will put their money where their mouth is. #ASP24 #ASP25
On 3 December 2025, ICC #ASP24 adopted a declaration wherein States Parties reaffirmed their unwavering support for the ICC, their commitment to the principles and values of the Statute, and expressed their grave concern about threats and coercive measures, as well as their impact. All good, but

The budget 2026 is guided by realism and driven by the goal to carry out ICC mission at challenging times. It has required difficult internal adjustment. Every programme has been reassessed. The budget presented is lean. The Court is a responsible steward of public funds. #ASP24
ICC Registrar Zavala Giler at #ASP24 on the ICC budget for 2026:
The Court has consistently acted as a responsible custodian of the mandate States Parties entrusted to it. 2026: this is not an ordinary time, and this is not an ordinary budget.
The ICC’s first conviction in the Darfur Situation is historic — but justice isn’t justice without reparations.
