Nevertheless, it might have a first result by the integration of Ethiopian troops within the #AU peace mission, formerly #AMISOM, then #ATMIS, now known as #AUSSOM since 1 Jan 2025. A key aspect of the new mission shall be Egyptian oversight however, an uneasy situation for all involved.
The African Union mission in #Somalia is officially rebranded from #ATMIS to #AUSSOM, but the mission's future is uncertain. #Ethiopian forces remain in Somalia despite repeated demands from the FGS that they withdraw, Burundi will withdraw its troops, and funding has not yet been secured.
While the replacement of #ATMIS with #AUSSOM (African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in #Somalia) was approved by the UNSC,a Somali official stated that 11,000 security personnel had been provided and that #Ethiopia forces were not necessary. Following these statements👇
The provisional federal government of #Somalia claims that the deployment of troops to Ras Kamboni in #Jubaland is linked to the withdrawal of KDF as part of the
#ATMIS drawdown. But Kenyan forces in the area are part of KDF Op Amani Boni, not ATMIS.
