After the rules change, most players lost some points and a few swapped places. Khachanov and Lehecka, Darderi and Griekspoor. Nothing dramatic, just starting off the new year with the right rankings

2026 ATP rule change for points

Previously, the top 19 events counted towards a player's points. This has been reduced to 18. Also the mandatory 500 events (for the Top 30) have been reduced from 5 to 4 events (one after US Open). This took place the last week in December

Alcaraz regained the #1 spot after beating Sinner at the US Open and held it all but one week the rest of the year. He starts 2026 with only QF points (400) to defend at the Australian Open (vs Sinner's 2000) so should hold the top through at least Monte Carlo
