I signed up against item 39 on the agenda for the upcoming #atxcouncil meeting. Soft parking caps applied selectively near transit might result in greater sprawl development and work against the very goals (transit-supportive density) they are intended to achieve.
Austin City Council campaign finance reports are in for the latest reporting period. @davidforatx.bsky.social @paige-ellis.bsky.social @zoforaustin.bsky.social #atxcouncil
Austin now has three @aura-atx.org members on our Planning Commission. And the majority the #atxcouncil won their seats with our endorsement. Showing up works.
#ATXcouncil passes a budget, at the lower tax rate 5¢ below what was passed earlier this year.

Map of Austin TX with VERY EVEN distribution of new infill housing projects across the city as represented by purple dots.
Well crafted housing policy for the WIN! This is the distribution of new HOME projects in Austin, and look what happens when permit more infill housing everywhere by right?!?
Congrats to #atxcouncil & @aura-atx.org + many others for nailing it.
In the wake of Prop Q failing, #atxcouncil shd eliminate the next police cadet class and divert the $ to APD's deferred maintenance list. State law won't let them *cut* the police budget, but they can and MUST stop ballooning it in budget busting ways. Not ideal, but it's what the voters demanded.
It feels to me like #atxcouncil did not have the political capital needed to marshal progressives after burning so much of it to pass the police contract that did a lot to put us into this budget mess in the first place. And thanks to the #txlege, now everything will see cuts EXCEPT for APD.
My wife is retiring from Equity Action nxt week after working for the group for the last 5 years to pass the Austin Police Oversight Act then defend it 2 sessions running at the #txlege. To commemorate her work, the #atxcouncil will issue a proclamation this a.m. declaring it "Kathy Mitchell Day"!😍
Thank you for championing! Our youngest grandson is a NICU baby, fixing to graduate high school. Our family held vigil at the hospital so he wouldn't be alone. I had the red-eye shift. You know how lonely NICU is at night. I would read, sing, and talk to him. So much pain in that room.

Yesterday's political violence disturbs me greatly. Our Constitution gives us Free Speech. I'm very encouraged, however, that our Federal Legislatures came together to denounce this violence. Let's build on those bipartisan efforts.

I totally support @repcasar.bsky.social bill to reverse cuts to Texas's FEMA funding. The tragic flooding in the Central Texas Hill Country is only one example of how vital these federal monies are! 27 children and counselors were killed in this flooding.

"$25.22 per month to an average homeowner's city tax bill."

I'm voting FOR✅
Look at the list of stuff this TRE funds!👇
"which would add approximately $25.22 per month to an average homeowner's city tax bill."
Very reasonable, looking at the list of stuff this funds.

The climate revolving fund is eliminated entirely in Mayor Watson’s tax increase proposal. :( #atxcouncil
This is how Austin got a pro-housing #atxcouncil! We helped elect @runforsomething.net endorsed candidates like @vanessaforatx.bsky.social @paige-ellis.bsky.social @zoforaustin.bsky.social. RFS candidates win, even in big states like Texas. And now we need even more young Texans to step up & run.
And yes @aura-atx.org endorsements for #atxcouncil have been a critical tool to help low-information voters make more informed decisions about who to support in municipal elections. This is a vital piece of our advocacy work and essential to our success.
This! Austin passed major housing reforms because we elected a #atxcouncil that wanted to do the hard work.
If you don’t have the right people at city hall, your city can’t change.
If not for the sustained advocacy of @aura-atx.org & @chris-gannon.bsky.social(AIA) & #atxcouncil Austin’s recent technical building code update would have been abysmal. It took 14 months to get a compromise Single Stair amendment & it was clear the entire time staff did not want to change anything.
When I was on #atxcouncil we voted down a multi-million dollar facility for police horses – over objections of how necessary they were for crowd control.
Seems like having horses doesn't control anything and the animals are put in harms way just to further brutality.
Do Austin's density bonus programs need "calibration"? Or are they fundamentally broken?

We need an immediate halt to the Austin Police Department Automated License Plate Reader program.

I hope #AtxCouncil will be as brave as the Denver city council.

#AtxCouncil should vote against ALPRs.
