The Northrop F-15 Reporter was a photographic reconnaissance aircraft based on the Northrop P-61 Black Widow night fighter. The experimental XP-61E was modified by having its armament removed and a revised nose fitted. A P-61C was also modified to the same standard.

The end of the Second World War saw the large orders placed for the F-15 reduced to just 36 aircraft. These served mainly with the 8th Photographic Reconnaissance Squadron in Japan. From here they provided aerial mapping of Japan, Korea and the Philippines.

The US Air Force ended F-15 operations in March 1949, after which several were used by civilian Government agencies. One was converted as an aerial tanker for fire fighting duties.
