Afro Celt Sound System Vol. I: Sound Magic (front cover) Some tracks from this were actually used in promotions for tv coverage of the US Olympics that year. One track, Inion (Daughter) was used in an episode of the Canadian tv series La Femme Nikita, of which we were ardent fans. Another ACSS track, Release (see next album) was used in a later episode of LFN. This album provided so much inspiration to our writing, and was actually crucial, years later, to “soundtrack” the beginnings of a romantic Utopian fantasy novel We co-wrote during Covid lockdowns. ~💞 Apologies for not using ALTs for its proper purpose. This fault is continued in the next three non-ALTs, ending in further apologies. 😔
Afro Celt Sound System Vol. 2: Release (w/guest vocal on the literally death-defying, uplifting title track, Release, from Sinéad O’Connor). Though, tbh, our favourite tracks are Éireann & Amber, both sung by iarla…
AfroCelt Sound System Vol. 3: Further In Time - with guest vocals from Peter Gabriel (When You’re Falling, which Peter sings with iarla); Robert Plant (Life Begin Again) & Heather Nova? or Screaming Orphans-unclear on credits tbh (on one of our very fav songs ever: Go On Through, along with iarla’s seeming “response” song afterward, Persistence of Memory - both songs so very close to our 💞) along with many guest musicians of both Afro & Celtic background.
Iarla Ó’Lionáird made several solo albums, our favourite of which is the absolutely gorgeous & deeply personal Foxlight (not pictured here). He even had a cameo appearance in the movie Brooklyn -a film We highly recommend, btw - in which he appears as one of the poor Irish immigrant men at a Catholic church’s shelter Christmas dinner. He’s asked by the priest to sing for the crowd and stands up, singing a heartbreakingly beautiful and poignant song from the Old Country, bringing tears to the eyes of the many old men there. But this is among what followed his several solo albums: the 2nd album by “Irish supergroup” The Gloaming. It’s the one of theirs we like best, beautiful and rich with traditional Celtic songs, some instrumental. It includes a version of the song Iarla sang in Brooklyn. Apologies for using these ALTs to explain the albums rather than to do what they’re meant for: descriptions of images for those sight impaired. Though each album cover is actually very complex, unusual and/or difficult for us to describe, to be honest! Sorry, nonetheless. 💞
It’s funny: we’ve never done more than 1 #music post in a day. But the truth is over the course of a day We listen to many other things #AfroCeltSoundSystem #DepecheMode #Enigma #DeadCanDance etal always returning to #IarlaOLionaird ‘s voice & #Celtic🎵 #TheGloaming 4💿s We’ve rec’d before: 3 by #ACSS

I can’t recommend this artist & especially this album, highly enough. It’s one of few #albums I can listen to straight thru, #music so beautiful, #peaceful & personal. #IarlaO_Lionaird has a voice I’ve loved since he was w/ #AfroCeltSoundSystem

Nr 12 - sharing some favorite music.
More of a concept, now, than an actual lineup of musicians, Afro-Celt Sound System is still an enjoyable fusion of electronic, traditional Gaelic, and African music.

More and more and more mixtures of African rhythms and singing with Celtic reels and melodies. This time #AfroCeltSoundSystem is more modest and subtle, but still infective and impressive.

Afro Celts - 'Seed' (2003)
The late #SimonEmmerson's #AfroCeltSoundSystem treats us with more and more fine mistures of African rhythms and Celtic atmospheres. Featuring #AyubOgada, #JahWobble, #IarlaÓLionáird and many more. Rise above it! CDRWF111

1999 stolperte ich über dieses Album aus dem Hause von Peter Gabriel (RealWorld). Meiner Meinung auch das beste Album, was die Gruppe herausgebracht hatte.
