This past month we've been taking a look at figures in four staple food crops: #wheat, #soybeans, #rice, and #corn.
Trade in foodstuffs overall continues to grow, with a 10x increase since 1960, and much greater in some regions.

For corn, the EU is a major importer - bringing in about 20,000,000MT in 2024/2025. (stats: USDA)

The EU is primarily an importer of soybeans. We do export small amounts, ~0.4m tonnes compared to Brazil's 102mt. (stats: USDA)

They create jobs and open world markets to both smallholders & big farmers, strengthening rural areas.
