For this week's #FluorescenceFriday, I bring you xyloglucan chains in the #PlantCellWalls of an Arabidopsis root. #Cellulose is also deposited in such chains, mirroring the underlying #microtubules. This pattern is new for #xyloglucan, though. Showing #AiryScan & #SRRF-microscopy images in plants!
An Arabidopsis seedling with propidium iodide in the apoplast and seed coat, as well as Alexa488-labeled xyloglucan in the cell walls of the root hairs, elongating cells and seed coat. The PI appears red, the Alexa488 green. Thus, the seed coat is yellow, providing a third colour.
