"Nothing good lasted in the world, that's why you needed poets to grab it as it went flying by."
-- Alan Furst, "The Polish Officer"

“Under Occupation” by #AlanFurst is a great oldie-timey thriller filled with spies, espionage and sexy vixens in silky garments. A quick read and the #audiobook has a great narrator.

I finished #reading Red Gold by Alan Furst, one of his excellent novels about spies in #WW2.
Wonderful atmosphere. Spare, near-poetic prose. And the lingering question of what we would do in a similar situation. A novel that transcends the genre the way le Carré did.

An Alan Furst novel just begs to be read on a train.

I finished reading The World at Night by Alan Furst.
Atmospheric. Poetic. If you've ever wanted to read a subtle novel about spies in WWII that asked why people resisted the Nazis at the risk of great personal sacrifice, this is the one. It'll have you wondering about yourself.

The air was ice, the heavens swept with winter stars, white and still in a black sky.
