WILL YOU STILL WANT ME TOMORROW?
You are #AlanYentob. The future of #Eldorado is in your hands. With improving ratings and kinder reviews, the joke soap suddenly isn't so funny. Should you pull the plug? The Independent canvasses opinion.

SUN MAY SET ON ELDORADO
#AlanYentob took over as Controller of BBC1 yesterday - and immediately sounded a possible death knell for #Eldorado. "It doesn't seem to have done the business . . ."
#OnThisDay 9 July 1993
ADIOS TO ALL THAT
Tonight the sun sets on the ill-fated #Eldorado. The Guardian says farewell to the soap that was neither good nor bad enough, and programme-makers offer BBC1 controller #AlanYentob suggestions on how to fll the troublesome 7pm slot . . .

I spent a long time trying to persuade him to let me at his Heinrich Böll film, but he never would, & I don't know if it ever got finished? #alanyentob
Oh I'm sorry to hear about Alan Yentob, he was a lovely guy, even though a nightmare in the cutting room, all those years ago. But I was probably a nightmare too, young & opinionated. #alanyentob
gosh! no! #AlanYentob was one of the best media-moguls the BBC & UK ever had... intelligent, inquisitive, investigative, even-handed & gentle... his leadership & latterly interviews & documentaries are among the most informative, interesting & enlightening 😭

The great #AlanYentob made it seem as if he was the establishment but he was truly an outsider and his success special. He was as much an artist as any of his subjects and I will miss his mesmerising take on art www.theguardian.com/media/2025/m...
A moment of considerable sadness, for a true representative of the Reithian tradition. #AlanYentob

RIP Alan Yentob,a real champion of the arts on the BBC.. he must have hated how the BBC now undervalues & has decimated its coverage & stripped BBC4 of its purpose #alanYentob

Art and Culture is what makes a society worth fighting for.
If we become detached from it the Fascists win.

In his post as Head of Arts, Alan Yentob had searched high and low and found that only Alan Yentob could handle the task. Having hired himself at a suitable salary, he did some excellent programmes — the one about the Soane Museum was especially fine — but I often wondered, while watching him in action, if he ever thought back to the days when his decisions had made life difficult for those of us who were doing the same thing.
The late #CliveJames is responsible for this particularly fine quote about #AlanYentob - taken from The Blaze of Obscurity, circa 2009 (I think)… #BBC #Yentob
Sad.
I loved his Imagine programmes, he was such an insightful, gentle and unobtrusive interviewer.

An #Otwituary for broadcaster #AlanYentob
I came to the gallery of glass,
pressed my face against the pane
to glimpse art and word, a strain
of song. A man of easy gravitas
said ‘I curate what genius knows:
that an open mind is hard to close’.
