I only write when I am inspired. Fortunately I am inspired at 9 o’clock every morning.

"Write what you really think and mean, not what you think you should think and not what you thought you would think and not what you hope it will mean, but what is really authentic and true." --Susan Orlean #Write #AmRiting #KidLitWriter

For the Love of March (Madness) Yes, it's about basketball.

I couldn't read There's Always This Year by Hanif Abdurraqib without reflecting on #MarchMadness and had to write my own reply to the season as a #UConn fan from the self-proclaimed Basketball Capital of the World.

Stevens took a breath. She knew that tone, even in silence. “It’s fine. I need a moment here.” She broke contact and found Jassan waiting to meet her eyes.

“You’re going to tell him?”

“He said there’s something he needs to tell me in the tone that I would have been using to start that conversation with him. Let Ailene and Saron know so his reaction won’t distract them.” Stevens glared at the spiraling map. “Damn it. I wanted to do this once we had a plan.”

Kent Jassan stepped around to the back of the workstation where they had been studying the border with what they had left the Sydisi of an empire. Eventually, when their own resources and political climate allowed it, they would move to liberate more of those worlds the Sydisi had taken before encountering the Alliance. Jassan’s hands wrapped around the blond woman’s neck, his lips brushing hers when he spoke, his voice no more than a whisper. “You… are… the… plan. You are the touchstone of everything the Sydisi fear. And you… are enough.”

Jessica Stevens trembled in his hands and made no dismissal of his conviction, not out of arrogance, not out of hubris, not out of recollection of her past victories, but because of the rage that was now filling her. The only force greater was the control that contained it, that would shape it, that would temper it into the plan they needed.

She brushed his lips with her own and gripped his face in return. “Anisee’ taught me that leadership was not to be on the bridge, but to be the bridge to all that was best in those around you, and to be their bridge home when they were at their worst. On those terms I accept your faith.” She kissed him and moved back to activate the wristcom’s link to the transmat.

One of the more shocking realisations I had is that I can't all the professional editing I need for a novel and probably no cover art either.
Won't stop me from writing, but probably be a major factor in my approach to publishing that fantasy novel.
