Amazon WorkSpaces now supports Microsoft Windows Server 2025 AWS announces availability of new bundles powered by Microsoft Windows Server 2025, offered for Amazon WorkSpaces Personal and Amazon WorkSpaces Core. With these bundles, customers can launch Windows Server 2025 WorkSpaces and take advantage of the latest Windows server operating systems features. Customers can run applications such as eligible Microsoft 365 Apps for enterprise that require newer Windows versions. While Windows Server 2016, 2019, and 2022 powered WorkSpaces bundles remain available, the Windows Server 2025 option brings enhanced security and modern capabilities such as Trusted Platform Module 2.0 (TPM 2.0), Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) Secure Boot, Secured-core server, Credential Guard and Hypervisor-protected Code Integrity (HVCI) and DNS-over-HTTPS. You can get started using the managed Windows Server 2025 WorkSpaces bundles or create your own custom bundle and image tailored to your requirements. Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser now supports custom domain Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser now supports custom domains for your WorkSpaces Secure Browser portals, enabling you to configure portal access through your own domain name instead of the default portal URL. This feature provides users with a more integrated experience using a domain that aligns with your organization's branding for each secure browser session. As an administrator you simply add the custom domain in the WorkSpaces Secure browser portal and set up a reverse proxy (for example Amazon CloudFront). Once set up, traffic is routed through your reverse proxy to the portal endpoint, and WorkSpaces Secure Browser automatically redirects users to the configured custom domain after authentication and authorization. Authentication can be via AWS Identity Center or your own Identity Provider (IdP), supporting both IdP-initiated and service provider-initiated flows. This feature is available at no additional cost in 10 AWS Regions, including US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Frankfurt, London, Ireland), and Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney, Singapore). WorkSpaces Secure Browser offers pay-as-you go pricing. Amazon WorkSpaces launches Graphics G6, Gr6, and G6f bundles Today, Amazon WorkSpaces announces the availability of 12 new Graphics G6, Gr6, and G6f WorkSpaces bundles built on the Amazon EC2 G6 family. These bundles expand customers’ options for running graphics-intensive and GPU-accelerated workloads, and are available on both Amazon WorkSpaces Personal and Amazon WorkSpaces Core. The new bundles are designed to support a wide range of performance, memory, and cost requirements: G6 bundles include five sizes with 1:4 vCPU-to-memory configurations, suitable for graphic design, CAD/CAM, and ML model training workloads. Gr6 bundles include two sizes with memory-optimized 1:8 vCPU-to-memory configurations, designed for higher-memory workloads such as 3D rendering, seismic visualization, and GIS processing. G6f bundles include five sizes and offer fractional GPU options (1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 GPU), enabling cost-effective access to GPU acceleration for workloads that do not require a full GPU. All Graphics G6, Gr6, and G6f WorkSpaces support Windows Server 2022 and allow customers to bring their own Windows desktop licenses for Windows 11. These bundles are available in 13 AWS Regions: US East (N. Virginia), US West (Oregon), Canada (Central), Europe (Paris, Frankfurt, London), Asia Pacific (Tokyo, Mumbai, Sydney, Seoul), South America (São Paulo), and AWS GovCloud (US-West and US-East). With this feature, customers can now use printer-specific capabilities such as double-sided printing, paper tray selection, finishing options (stapling, hole-punching), and color management directly from their Windows WorkSpaces. Advanced printer redirection addresses the need for specialized printing features that require printer-specific drivers rather than generic drivers. This capability is ideal for organizations with users who need advanced printing features for professional documents, labels, or specialized output. The feature includes configurable driver validation modes (exact match, partial match, or name-only matching) to balance compatibility with feature support, allowing administrators to optimize for their specific environment. When matching drivers are not found, WorkSpaces automatically falls back to basic printing mode, ensuring users can always print. This feature is available in all AWS Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces Personal is offered. Advanced printer redirection is supported on Windows WorkSpaces with Windows clients only, and requires WorkSpaces Agent version 2.2.0.2116 or later and Windows client version 5.31 or later. Matching printer drivers must be installed on both the WorkSpace and the client device. Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser now supports WebAuthn redirection for local Chromium browsers Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser now supports Web Authentication (WebAuthn) redirection, allowing users to authenticate to websites using their local FIDO2 security keys, biometric authenticators, and platform authenticators while browsing in their WorkSpaces Secure Browser session. This feature is compatible with Chromium-based browser on users’ local devices, such as Google Chrome 136 (or later) or Microsoft Edge 137 (or later). It is not supported on non-Chromium-based browsers such as Safari or Firefox. WebAuthn redirection helps users enjoy seamless and secure authentication on websites within their WorkSpaces Secure Browser sessions. This feature supports FIDO2 security keys, passkeys, and platform authenticators like Windows Hello or Touch ID. To enable the feature, administrators must activate WebAuthn redirection in Secure browser’s portal settings and configure the local browsers using the WebAuthenticationRemoteDesktopAllowedOrigins policy. This configuration allows WebAuthn tokens to be securely transmitted from a user’s local device to websites within a Secure Browser session, ensuring that users can authenticate securely without compromising the security benefits of the remote browsing environment. This feature is available at no additional cost in all regions where Amazon WorkSpaces Secure Browser is available, including US East (N. Amazon WorkSpaces now supports IPv6 Amazon WorkSpaces now supports IPv6 for WorkSpaces domains and external endpoints, enabling users to connect through an IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack configuration from compatible clients (excluding SAML authentication). This helps customers meet IPv6 compliance requirements and eliminates the need for costly networking equipment to handle address translation between IPv4 and IPv6. Dual-stack support for WorkSpaces addresses the Internet's growing demand for IP addresses by offering a vastly larger address space than IPv4. This eliminates the need to manage overlapping address ranges within your Virtual Private Cloud (VPC). Customers can deploy WorkSpaces through dual-stack that supports both IPv4 and IPv6 protocols while maintaining backward compatibility with existing IPv4 systems. Customers can also connect to their WorkSpaces through PrivateLink VPC endpoints over IPv6, enabling them to access the service privately without routing traffic over the public internet. Connecting to Amazon WorkSpaces over IPv4/IPv6 dual-stack configuration is supported in all AWS Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces is available, including the AWS GovCloud (US East & US West) Regions. There is no additional cost for this feature. To enable IPv6, you must use the latest WorkSpaces client application for Windows, macOS, Linux, PCoIP zero clients, or web access. Amazon WorkSpaces Applications announces additional health and performance metrics Today, Amazon WorkSpaces Applications announced a new set of Amazon CloudWatch metrics for monitoring the health and performance of fleets, sessions, instances, and users. Administrators and support operations personnel can conveniently enable monitoring across fleets from the Amazon CloudWatch console. These metrics simplify troubleshooting and dynamically update to reflect the latest state of important performance metrics. Users can make informed decisions on sizing and end users' streaming instances by setting performance thresholds on available metrics to meet performance and budgeting criteria. They can view instance and session performance metrics to troubleshoot end user streaming session related issues. To enable this feature for your fleet instancess, you must use a WorkSpaces Applications image that uses latest agent released on or after December 06, 2025 or has been updated using Managed WorkSpaces Applications image updates released on or after December 05, 2025. These CloudWatch metrics are available in all the AWS commercial and AWS GovCloud (US) Regions where Amazon WorkSpaces Applications is currently available. Amazon WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances is now available in 5 additional AWS Regions AWS today announced Amazon WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances availability in US East (Ohio), Asia Pacific (Malaysia), Asia Pacific (Hong Kong), Middle East (UAE), and Europe (Spain), bringing Amazon WorkSpaces capabilities to these AWS Regions for the first time. WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances in these Regions is supported by partners including Citrix, Workspot, Leostream, and Dizzion. Amazon WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances simplifies virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) migrations with highly customizable instance configurations. WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances provisions resources in your AWS account, handling infrastructure lifecycle management for both persistent and non-persistent workloads. Managed Instances provide flexibility for organizations requiring specific compute, memory, or graphics configurations. With WorkSpaces Core Managed Instances, you can use existing discounts, Savings Plans, and other features like On-Demand Capacity Reservations (ODCRs), with the operational simplicity of WorkSpaces - all within the security and governance boundaries of your AWS account. This solution is ideal for organizations migrating from on-premises VDI environments or existing AWS customers seeking enhanced cost optimization without sacrificing control over their infrastructure configurations. You can use a broad selection of instance types, including accelerated graphics instances, while your Core partner solution handles desktop and application provisioning and session management through familiar administrative tools.
