my angel has a lot of themes of like, internalized homophobia in a way he's accepted and embraced, but aren't like, morally _correct._ like we know it's ok to have same sex attractions and it doesn't mean that there's anything wrong with you, but he kinda. _doesn't._ and strangely it's only something he applies to himself bc of the things he's done in life + the ways he was brought up around his feelings. in a nutshell, he grew up super religious (coughcatholiccough) and learned boys liking boys was bad. boys liking girly things was bad, too. so he was like ok, i'm bad then. his father ofc didn't like that, and started grooming him to become a mafia man, which backfired bc that "kiss of death" thing blew his mind. so that meant he could kiss boys?? so long as he killed them??? so he took that and RAN WITH IT, eventually earning himself a lot of prestige bc everyone in the mafia was fucking TERRIFIED of him and the ways he weaponized his sexuality. being into men (or looking a little feminine) didn't mean he was weak, it meant he was going to FUCKING KILL YOU ABOUT IT. so they gave him the role of hunting down traitors and doing all the dangerous jobs no one else wanted to do bc all those dangerous mental associations, love = violence, killing = passion, loosened a few screws in his head. it worked in their favor (for the most part) and he was living the life (sort of). as we know, he did a lot of drugs about it.

getting into sex work after he died kinda calmed him down, esp being with valentino. i like to think of valentino being the first love he could actually _keep,_ but in his core, angel's perceptions of love are really warped in a way what he feels, although intense, doesn't really resemble love as we know it. he _does_ feel it _extremely_ deeply, tho, and i've turned it around in my head as a sort of aromantic love. not bc it's violent, but bc it's queered by his life experiences in a way he can't really change. which is alright, bc hell is the perfect place for his brand of love to exist, and for him to be accepted himself as he reckons with all the things he did in life. lastly, his favorite way to kill was biting off a dick mid blowjob, eating it, and exploring the cavity. he's a sexual cannibal, and since his attraction made him out to be a monster, he embraced being a monster and considers himself above other men in much of the same way other cannibals tend to do in the way they consume.
