Indiana Accelerates Power Project Approvals to Meet Growing Demand
Indiana is accelerating power project approvals to meet growing demand driven by new development, particularly the rise of data centers, as part of its efforts to maintain grid reliability while pursuing decarbonization goals. The Midwest Independent System Operator's streamlined approval process, known as the Electric Resource Adequacy Study (ERAS), aims to expedite the development of new energy infrastructure, including natural gas facilities paired with battery storage and solar projects incorporating battery storage, in a bid to create a more flexible and resilient energy system that integrates renewable energy sources with dispatchable backup power.
