USU monitoring: Carp removal linked to some ecosystem gains but water quality unchanged at Utah Lake A Utah State University fish biologist reported that carp-removal efforts (2009–2024) correspond with increased shoreline plant species, more zooplankton and better fish condition, but no measurable decline in in-lake nutrient concentrations or higher densities of submerged vegetation; presenters urged further carp suppression, nutrient reductions and attention to lake-level fluctuations.

Carp removal in Utah Lake has sparked ecological improvements, but the water quality remains unchanged, highlighting a complex challenge ahead.
