The #archelon was a giant sea turtle from the #cretaceous. It has long been a favorite of mine at the #peabodymuseum and this remounting brings it to life with a #mosasaur in pursuit. The archelon is missing part of its rear flipper, apparently bitten off, thus inspiring the dramatic scene. #paleo

The largest specimen is estimated to be 4.6m long, head to tail.

Page 1: There's a really important construction happening right next to the hotel. A construction of a sand castle! The kids are creating a magnificent castle on the beach. Bumpy: This is cool! I never thought sand could be so fun to play with! Trikey: Yeah, that's what I said before. It's fun to make all kinds of things out of sand! Cream: You said it, Trikey! Tails: Indeed. And as long as we do it away from the water, then we're good. They all carefully carve the sand with their hands, Cream uses her hand and a shovel. Bumpy: I'm glad I didn't use my tail. I've would've ruined it with one hit. Tails: You just gotta be very gentle and precise, that's all. Bumpy looks around. Bumpy: Is Charmy back with that bucket? Trikey looked around as well. Trikey: He should be. Oh, here he comes! Charmy hovers toward them with a bucket. Charmy: I got the sand for the middle! Scuse me, dinos! He carefully hovers over the middle, tilting the sand over and placed it down. Charmy: There we go! He lifts the bucket to reveal another tower. Trikey: Well done, Charmy! Bumpy: Yeah, good job! Charmy: Heh, I think we all did great. Tails: We sure did! ?: Yoohoo! They all looked up, and turned to see...
Page 2: Rouge: Hello, darlings! It was Rouge riding on the Archelon she met earlier. Rouge: My my. Making a sand castle, I see. Looks charming. They all stared. Rouge: Something wrong? Bumpy: That's a big turtle... Rouge: Oh, yes. Forgot to introduce you to my huge friend. Cream: Wow... He's the biggest turtle I've ever seen! Charmy: Yeah, where did you find him? Rouge glides down from the shell. Rouge: By that large rock over. She point towards the rock where she met the large, prehistoric turtle. Rouge: I found him eating fish, while lounging in the shade. He even like head rubs and pats. And he gave me a little ride all the way over here. So, he's really friendly. Charmy: You rode on him? Rouge: Yeah, I rode on a turtle before. It was at a lagoon years ago. Trikey: Whoa... What kind of turtle is he, though? Rouge: Well, that's why I came to ask Tails. Tails: Oh, well yes. I do know what this turtle is. It's actually a prehistoric animal, like Trikey and Bumpy. Trikey: Really? Bumpy: What is he called. Tails: Archelon. Cream, Charmy, Trikey, and Bumpy: Ooh!! Charmy: What does it mean, though. Tails: It means "Ruler turtle," or "Chief turtle." He's the largest one that has ever been documented. And he did live among the dinosaurs during the Cretaceous period, like you two. He refers to Trikey and Bumpy.
Page 3/Final: Bumpy: Wow! That is so awesome! Trikey: Yeah, that's amazing! To think that our ancestors lived along side this big turtle! Bumpy: Ancestors? Trikey: They're family members who lived long before we were born. Rouge: Why, thank you for the science class, Tails. It is nice to learn about new, mysterious creatures like Archie. Cream: Archie? Rouge: Well, I thought it goes well with Archelon. Charmy: Sounds good. Can I rub his head? Rouge: Go ahead, but don't be too rough. Do it gently. Charmy: Okay. He gently pats Archie's head, and the turtle purrs. Charmy was surprised. Charmy: You guys heard that? He just purred! Cream: Really? Charmy: Yeah, yeah! Listen! They hear the giant turtle purring. Cream: I didn't know turtles can purr. I thought they don't make sounds. She rubs his head and large beak. Cream: He's like cat! Tails: Many turtles make lots of sounds. And yeah, some can purr, and others don't. He laid his hand on Archie, and he purred blissfully. The chaos joined in as well. Rouge, Trikey, and Bumpy watched on. Cream: Oh, you like that, don't you? Tails: I never thought I would see one up close, and alive. They're could be more out there just like him. Cream: You think so? Tails: I'm sure of it. The kids continue to welcome their new friend, Archie the Archelon.
The kids are making a sand castle. Suddenly, Rouge arrived with the Archelon she met earlier. Tails explained all about him. They then gave him a head message as Rouge names him Archie.
