“Which of us is not saying to himself--which of us has not been saying to himself all his life: "I shall alter that when I have a little more time"? We never shall have any more time. We have, and we have always had, all the time there is.”

The pier also forms the backdrop to part of the #ArnoldBennett novel The Card. I love finding literary locations on walks - even minor ones. I drive friends mad by diving off down alleys in search of “that bench where So-and-So sat in ….”

They've put fencing up around the front and side of Hanley museum... at least they left Arnold on the outside of the fencing. He's not got much of a view but on the positive he'll have no distractions from reading his book 🤣🤣 #ArnoldBennett #Stoke-on-Trent #Hanley

This is an aspect of our author which hasn't, we suspect, been given much attention #ArnoldBennett

Yesterday's social history talk was around Burslem Cemetery. Arnold Bennett, William Leigh (Burleigh Pottery) and I'm sure William Boulton is where Boulton Street (my family home) got it's name from. I find Cemeteries really interesting. I need visit again #Burslem #ArnoldBennett #socialhistory

Today's social history talk was on Anna of the Five Towns and Arnold Bennett. Dug out my book to re-read so put it on my TBR pile!
Nice coffee and chat with friends afterwards ... that's my sort of Monday mornings! #books #classics #reading #ArnoldBennett #stokeontrent

A Turkish bath attendant was paid 27/- per week, and a women's shampooer 5/- per day. A Turkish bath cost 1/-, or 6d after 4.00 pm.
Turkish baths appear in works by author and Turkish bath user #arnoldbennett, the well-known chronicler of the Five Towns.

Arnold Bennett is one of those writers who was very popular at the turn of the 20thC,but is now a bit forgotten. We did one of his novels for O level - sort of amusing but ordinary. But he also wrote a self-help book with one of the best titles ever - How To Live On 24 Hours A Day. #ArnoldBennett
