At the centre is Gwenevere, High Queen of Albion herself. On the top left-hand corner is Saturn, God of Time, holding a sickle in one hand and an hourglass in the other. To the left of Gwenevere is the strange, haunted land of Gorre, where King Baudemagus rules and where his son Prince Meleagant took her when he abducted her, a land of swamps and dark forests where fierce beasts prowl, and there on the bottom left hand corner sits a hermit in front of his hut in a clearing. Centre left is King Baudemagus's castle itself, which is protected by a fast flowing river, and across the river lies the sharp Sword Bridge (which is literally a giant sword that acts as a bridge). On the right is Camelot, King Arthur's castle, which sits in the middle of a lake surrounded by forests, and a Red Knight sets forth from his pavilion at the edge of the forest to cross the bridge into Camelot. Gwenevere herself is smiling, her hands on her chest, brown hair flowing, a golden crown on her head, and she wears a dress whose sleeves are decorated with flower patterns, and whose skirt is decorated with leaf patterns, and whose cloak has images of clouds on it. On her belt a stag is chased by the red-eared hounds of Arawn, Lord of Annwfn, or the Otherworld. Behind her head is a circle whose colours represent the passage of time (Green for Morning, Yellow and Orange for Afternoon, Red for Evening, and Blue for Night), and at its edges are the faces of the Sun, of Christ Jhesu the Son of the Christian God, and the Green Man.
This is a portrait of Queen Guinevere from the Arthurian legends I did back in early November that I thought I might share here. #arthurianlegends #art #mythology
