On #AskanArchivist Day we received the Q if we have any fun photos of Robert F. Kennedy, Sr., and we do!

Our absolute favorite is this one that long-time S&S photographer Gus Schuettler snapped of the then U.S. Attorney General at the Heidelberg University auditorium, June 27, 1964.

Did y'all know that, unlike other kinds of tangible heritage, archives are still considered a legitimate prize of war?

It's beyond time for the international system to address this. Targeting of archives and vital records centers should be a war crime.

That's a take I keep hot.

While we (pretend to) love all our collections equally, we'd love to see someone dig into the Harding family collection: archives.nebraska.edu/repositories... The letters between Callie and her friends are particularly fun. #archives #AskAnArchivist

Actress Marilyn Monroe poses with Pfc. John Fenesy of Caldwell, N.J., 3rd Div. air section, left, and Cpl. Dick Armstrong of Williston Park, N.Y., 13th Helicopter Co, at the 3rd Division ("Rock of the Marne") airstrip Feb. 18, 1954. Armstrong was the crew chief on the helicopter that brought the star to her show, which drew thousands of servicemembers. The blond bombshell accompanied her husband Joe DiMaggio as he flew to Japan to assist the Japan Central League start training for the 1954 season, but Mrs. Joe DiMaggio detoured with a jaunt to South Korea to entertain the troops. On #AskAnArchivist Day, you asked for a Marilyn Monroe photo? We deliver!

We only have photo prints as the negatives “mysteriously” disappeared a long, long time ago, but this is one of our favorites…just look at the faces of those GIs!

#ArchivesMonth: Here's a question we got from #AskAnArchivist Day!

“I would like to know my grandfather’s service record and where he was in WW2.” ——Robert Lee Quinlan of Detroit, Mi.

Thanks, Robert! We often get this question so we’re happy to answer it here.

#AskAnArchivist Day: We also digitize images for documentary producers and authors writing a book, wanting to use historic images in their work.

You might've seen one if you watched “My Mom Jayne,” the HBO documentary directed by Mariska Hargitay about her mom Jayne Mansfield.

How do we decided what to digitize? Most of the digitization work we currently do is for preservation reasons. #AskAnArchivist

The original negative seen here suffers from a preservation issue called "silvering," where the silver particles rise to the top of the gelatin layer of the film.
