There’s a hole in #Astraedes. Despite Astraea’s bubbliness to Emet-Selch’s grumpier & to the book nature, Astraea knows how cruel the Ancient world is & often refers to his faith in the system as flawed. She admires this about him but also hopes he’ll eventually acknowledge the cracks⤵️

The 1st rule was pigtails, any kind of pigtails, meant to be like bunny ears because I had Usagi from SM's pigtails stuck in my head as an idea (& since Hex is a Viera...)

Then OFC I wanted the pigtails to be close to Hex's colors, but not quite. So I went darker & lighter.⤵️

Astraea’s not from Amaurot. She doesn’t remember where she’s from, though she does remember it’s in ruins & she was running away from it as a very young girl until Venat found her.

Due to this, she takes the Convocation’s decisions to sacrifice “rejects” personally.

Astraea didn’t make anything of lasting power. She usually just borrowed other concepts for travel. Sometimes, she’d create minor familiars (that happened to be bunny shaped) to temporarily aid those in her travels, but they didn’t really take a lasting form.

Astraea’s actually much more similar to Ardbert than Hex. They’re externally goofy & roundabout in their approach to debate & quick to defend others.

They also both main an axe & will fight to bitter end to save those they care about, Ardbert with Cylva & Astraea with Elidibus.⤵️

Cutscene where Emet-Selch approaches Astraea & the other Scions at the Crystarium before introducing himself. ???: "You certainly took your time I had half resolved to complete the task myself."

This hit harder since I hadn't really played much on Astraea after DT came out except for holiday events.

I kept telling Zen I picture her just running & teleporting around right in front of Emet-Selch as he just stands there waiting.

This is probably what Hex’s soul inherited from Astraea, as Astraea collected a lot of things. Emet-Selch always lectured her about having no space in his apt for the “junk” she’d find (“Your apt is empty! Why won’t you keep this trash there?”) but he still kept much of it.

Astraea is an all-rounder.

As a child, Astraea was essentially an ACN, as her mother/mentor Venat taught her to channel aether via vessel to cast & heal on their travels. It played into Astraea's need to be involved, while also keeping her (mostly) out of danger.⤵️

I dyed Hex’s robes Abyssal Blue & paired with Shadow Blue sleeves

It reminded me of how anime!KNY’s Shinobu’s uniform is blue-black compared to other demon slayers’ uniforms so I kept blue for Hex’s Ancient Astraea (but then say “it’s black but worn from adventure”)⤵️

Astraea didn’t have an office, just a desk in her small minimalistic apt. Since she was usually on road, it was rarely used, but even less so because in those odd times she was in Amaurot, she’d use Emet-Selch’s workspace that she crowded with small random knickknacks from her travels⤵️

Hex & Astraea come off pretty differently: Astraea was a genius who hid it under roundabout mischief & liveliness.

Hex, meanwhile, seems more solemn, less expressive, & “stiff, dull, & dumb” compared to “the original”.

Astraea has a scar across her nose (mystery where it came from but had it since before she was found as a young child). Her hair is almost always in some kind of pigtail or double bun situation (due to her bunny obsession) & less often but still very commonly with found flowers.

Hex's Ancient is Astraea. I was looking up Greek myths for names & stumbled on a goddess who hoped to help people as Golden Age ended, but disappeared when world became hopeless, much like what we know of canon Azem.

Her name connecting to stars was a bonus ("shepherd to the stars")

Astraea escaped a place of ruin & traveled the Star even as just a child, so she was exposed to the bad from a young age. She hoped, as she began to take the idea of becoming Azem more seriously, that this goal meant something, but realized how subjective & hollow it was.⤵️

Astraea was "grounded" because she didn't finish her long overdue paperwork from her last trip...

Astraea would create weapons of aether in battle however they suited her needs at the moment. Like her mother, she was also a triple threat, skilled in tanking, dpsing, & healing. She mainly used something resembling an axe, though she was known for throwing discs of light as well.
